Through her research, she has influenced the development of treatment directions for conditions such as lymphoma, and she is currently working toward preparing a patent for commercial availability.

Originally from China, Dr. Wang received a Doctor of Medicine in her home country before immigrating to the U.S. to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy in molecular biology and biochemistry from Brandeis University, graduating in 1995. She went on to complete a fellowship in molecular genetic pathology and a residency in pathology and lab medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. In 2002, she joined Weill Cornell Medicine as an assistant professor and director of the molecular hematopathology laboratory, moving up to an associate professor position in 2008. Leaving Weill Cornell Medicine in 2013, she became a professor and the division director of genomic molecular pathology at The University of Chicago Medicine, making her the first Asian woman to be a full professor at the university. With her team, she developed and launched the first-ever next-generation sequencing-based cancer test in 2014, making the University of Chicago the only institution in the Chicago area that offered advanced and comprehensive genomic testing, placing them at the forefront of personalized medicine. Alongside her work at the Fox Chase Cancer Center, she was the executive director of translation sciences at the Incyte Research Institute from 2018 to 2020.

Dr. Wang is considered among the top five percent of investigators by citations and has notably influenced the understanding and treatment of lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. For her work, she has received the Yao Yuan Award for Research Excellence and the Travel Award from the American Society for Clinical Investigation, as well as being named a top doctor by Philadelphia Magazine. Reflecting on her journey as an Asian immigrant to the United States, she is grateful for the support of those around her. She encourages other immigrant Asian women to embrace their ideas and leadership, stressing the importance of asserting oneself.

Moving forward, Dr. Wang strives to reach new heights of scientific achievement. She hopes to continue publishing research, increase the readership of her work, establish collaborations with academic and industrial partners and secure additional research grants to support her work. While she remains passionate about her career, she is considering retirement within the next decade.
