Priscila A. Llamosa, DSW, Founder at Center for Clinical Development & Supervision, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Mental Healthcare and Social Work.

Dr. Llamosa has established herself as a distinguished leader and innovator in the field of mental health and social work, with a career spanning more than a decade. Since 2024, she has served as the founder and board member of the Center for Clinical Development and Supervision (CCDS), where she has dedicated her expertise to advancing clinical supervision and professional development for practitioners. In this capacity, Dr. Llamosa has demonstrated a commitment to elevating standards in clinical training and consultation, drawing on her extensive background in trauma, higher education and clinical practice. Following in its mission to advance inclusive, anti-oppressive and justice-informed clinical mental health education, she is part of a team that provides workshops at national and international conferences, as well as symposia, to faculty and clinical staff, and provides direct clinical supervision and consultation to licensed mental health professionals and graduate students throughout North Carolina.

In addition to her most recent commitments at CCDS, Dr. Llamosa has held the position of executive and clinical director at Thrivemind Counseling and Wellness PLLC since 2018. In this role, she has overseen the delivery of comprehensive mental health services while fostering an environment that prioritizes social justice and holistic care. Dr. Llamosa’s leadership at Thrivemind Counseling and Wellness PLLC is marked by her ability to integrate academic research with practical application, ensuring that both clients and clinicians benefit from evidence-based approaches.

Before these roles, Dr. Llamosa excelled at RHA Health Services LLC, beginning as a clinical social work intern in 2013 while still in college and then in various positions, including resource counselor, clinical coordinator, team leader and clinical director. During her tenure, she developed a reputation as an expert in crisis intervention and interdisciplinary collaboration and played a pivotal role in developing and implementing support strategies for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities who experience behavioral health crises.

From 2015 to 2017, Dr. Llamosa also worked as an outpatient psychotherapist at Coastal Horizons Center, the largest private, non-profit human service organization in southeastern North Carolina, where she provided direct clinical services to diverse populations. By taking a biopsychosocial approach to care, she formulated comprehensive clinical assessments of adult and youth populations. Dr. Llamosa’s approach consistently emphasized the importance of understanding systemic factors contributing to emotional distress rather than attributing challenges solely to individual shortcomings.

Dr. Llamosa’s early professional experiences included roles with the Marine Corps Community Services, U.S. Marine Corps. Initially working as a deployment support specialist and trainer from 2011 to 2012, she transitioned into the role of transition readiness instructor and advisor until 2013.

Dr. Llamosa’s academic career is equally distinguished. Since 2023, she has been a visiting clinical assistant professor at the college of social work at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Dr. Llamosa previously served as an adjunct faculty member at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, from 2017 to 2023 and as an adjunct faculty member of psychology at Craven Community College in New Bern, North Carolina, between 2013 and 2015.

Highly educated, Dr. Llamosa earned a Bachelor of Arts in communications from Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, followed by a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Phoenix, a Master of Social Work from East Carolina University, and a Doctor of Social Work from the University of Kentucky. Her professional credentials include a military and trauma counseling graduate certificate from East Carolina University in 2014, a nationally certified START coordinator credential through the Institute on Disability at the University of New Hampshire in 2015, a licensure as a clinical social worker by the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board in 2017, a certificate in mindfulness-based stress reduction from Duke University in 2018, a designation as a registered yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance in 2019, and credentials a certified clinical social work supervisor by the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board in 2020.

Dr. Llamosa’s achievements are underscored by active membership in prominent organizations, such as the North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault, the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation, the National Association of Social Workers of North Carolina and the National Association of Social Workers. She also serves as a committee member representing Region V for the National Association of Social Workers since 2018 and as the co-chair for the Jacksonville Local Program Unit of the National Association of Social Workers of North Carolina since 2021. Civically, Dr. Llamosa mentors with Joining Forces Mentoring Plus through the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation and advocates with the American Civil Liberties Union.

Dr. Llamosa’s expertise encompasses trauma, clinical supervision, clinical training, consultation and higher education. A prolific writer, her scholarly output includes multiple academic articles, an e-book and ongoing work on a new book project under contract. Despite carrying a full teaching load, where publishing is not required nor counted toward promotion, Dr. Llamosa has taken the initiative to influence discourse within social work by addressing structural oppression as central to mental health outcomes rather than focusing solely on individual pathology. Through writing, teaching, consulting engagements, workshops and conference presentations, Dr. Llamosa continues to raise awareness about inequality while equipping future practitioners with tools for advocacy.

In light of her hard work, Dr. Llamosa has received several accolades, including the Maria McMahon Achievement Award from the school of social work at East Carolina University in 2015, nomination for the GATE Mentor Teacher of the Year Award by the Georgia Association of Teacher Educators, and numerous scholarships. Throughout her career, Dr. Llamosa has credited her success in these areas to an exceptional support system composed of mentors who have believed in her abilities and encouraged her growth.

Looking ahead, Dr. Llamosa aims to enhance both accessibility and quality within mental health training programs so that future providers are equipped with knowledge rooted in equity rather than traditional models that may perpetuate systemic barriers. Through literature development, innovative training initiatives and thought leadership within conferences, she remains committed to shaping a more just landscape for mental health professionals worldwide.
