He has been in his profession for the last 56 years, during which time he has achieved many career highlights, including a distinguished service award from the American Thyroid Association as well as a Who’s Who LIfetime Achievement Award. He has been recognized within his industry for his expansive research and publications on the active mechanisms of thyroid hormones and their effects on endocrine function as it relates to aging. Driven by his passion for improving the lives of others through quality medical care, Dr. Davis notes that he was inspired to enter his profession due to the key figures he came into contact with during his early life and academic journey. This includes influences from his father, medical clinic professionals, and professors in college. In short, his overarching takeaway as he entered the healthcare field was to look beyond the obvious course of treatment. By doing this in conjunction with his training and experience Dr. Davis has been successful in the field of medicine.

Dr. Davis earned a Bachelor of Arts from Westminster College in 1959, which he earned magna cum laude. Thereafter, he pursued his medical education at Harvard University, where he achieved an MD, cum laude, in 1963. He then completed an internship in medicine followed by a residency at the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center (Now NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi). Quickly establishing a reputation of excellence, Dr. Davis continued in his professional pursuits through early roles as a senior staff associate for the National Institutes of Health and head of the endocrinology division at Baltimore City Hospitals. In 1975, he joined the faculty at the University of Buffalo, where he served in dual roles as the head of the endocrinology division and as a professor of medicine for 15 years. From there, Dr. Davis spent a decade as the chief of medical service for the VA West New York Healthcare System, a division of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Today, Dr Davis finds success as the senior associate dean for clinical research at the Albany Medical Center at Albany Medical College. Previously, he served the university as a professor and chairman of the department of medicine.

In addition to his professional work, Dr. Davis has been very involved in industry organizations. He has been the president of the American Thyroid Association, board of directors member of the American Thyroid Association, governor of the upstate new york region of the American College of Physicians, and president of the New York chapter of the American College of Physicians. Further, Dr. Davis has served on the merit review board of Endocrinology and merit review board of oncology for the American Board of Internal Medicine, as well as its VA board of directors. On several occasions, he has been a part of the national advisory council for the Health Sciences Center at West Virginia University. He also holds memberships with The Gerontological Society of America, the American Federation for Medical Research, the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the National Institute on Aging, and the National Institutes of Health. As he looks toward the future, Dr. Davis intends to continue in his work at Albany Health Centers while looking for new projects to share his expertise.
