Best known for his research into the mechanisms and action of thyroid hormones and the effects of aging on endocrine function, Dr. Davis has been a senior associate dean for clinical research at Albany Medical since 1998, and holds a seat with the national advisory council of the Health Sciences Center of West Virginia University. He also serves on the external reviewer panel of the Chernobyl Tissue Bank maintained by the European Union. Now chiefly a researcher, he has taught and practiced medicine since 1967, notably as head of endocrinology at the University at Buffalo from 1975 to 1990. Dr. Davis is a Marquis Who’s Who Industry Expert, and a recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award featured in Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the East, and Who’s Who in the World.

Born in Chicago to Paul Albert and Maxine Lydia Davis, Dr. Davis graduated magna cum laude from Westminster College to attend Harvard University, where he earned a MD, cum laude, in 1963. He served an internship with the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center, now the NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, The City of New York. He served a residency there until 1967, when he joined the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, as a clinical associate. Dr. Davis became head of endocrinology of the nearby Baltimore City Hospitals from 1970 to 1975 before moving to the University at Buffalo. He was chief of the medical service at the Veterans Affairs western New York Healthcare System from 1980 to 1990, before joined the Albany Medical College and Albany Medical Center.

Dr. Davis was named a trustee of Westminster College in 2000 as one of its prominent graduates, and has contributed to medical literature as the former editor-in-chief of Immunology, Endocrine, and Metabolic Agents in Medicinal Chemistry. Since 2004, he has worked as secretary editor of Current Opinion in Endocrinology, Diabetes, Obesity. Of his numerous professional affiliations, he is noted as a former president of the American Thyroid Association, as well as former governor in the upstate New York region and former president of the New York chapter of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Davis is also the proud father of Matthew, John, and Sarah with his wife, Faith Ainsworth Baker.
