With over two and a half decades of experience to his credit, Dr. Lacroix has carved out a distinguished career in the fields of neurosurgery, oncology, and brain tumors. Currently excelling as the chair of neurosurgery at the Geisinger Neuroscience Institute, Geisinger Health, he leads a team of neurosurgeons who deliver high-quality and patient-centered care to diverse populations. In this role, he oversees the department’s strategic planning, operational management, and financial performance, ensuring alignment with the organization’s vision and goals. Prior to his current position, he served as the vice chair of neurosurgery at the same institute. He also held the role of director of neurosurgical oncology at Université Laval in Quebec, Canada, for six years. Before that, he was an assistant professor at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston for four years.
Laying a solid foundation for his future success, Dr. Lacroix pursued an education at Université Laval, where he earned a Doctor of Medicine in neurosurgery. He continued his academic efforts with residencies in neurosurgery at McGill University, Montreal Neurological Institute, Notre Dame Hospital, and the University of Montreal. He concluded his studies with a fellowship in neurosurgical oncology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Following these accomplishments, he became board-certified in neurological surgery by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. In addition to his clinical work, he has contributed to the scientific community as the author of a scientific paper published in 2001. In addition to his primary vocation, he has maintained his involvement as a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons and is an active member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Society of Neurological Surgeons, and the Society for Neuro-oncology.
A standout moment in Dr. Lacroix’s career was his 2001 publication, which was hailed as one of the top 10 neurosurgical oncology papers in history. He is also proud of enriching the lives of his patients, partners, students, and peers. He knew from a young age that he wanted to be a surgeon, believing it to be a field that would constantly enrich itself, and he has dedicated his career to making a meaningful impact in neurosurgery and oncology. When giving advice to aspiring professionals, he emphasizes that the most important person to convince is oneself. He advises aspiring neurosurgeons to approach the field with enthusiasm, perspective, and hunger. He believes that you must be convinced that this is the path you truly want, for no other reason than your own conviction. His best advice is to listen to yourself and, if the journey feels right, embrace it wholeheartedly, as there is no better journey than one that aligns with your true aspirations.
