Among other roles, Dr. Gharagozlou was an attending physician at NorthBay Healthcare from 2009 to 2015. He was also affiliated with the staff at Sound Inpatient Physicians between 2009 and 2013. His career in sleep medicine began with a fellowship at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center from 2008 to 2009, followed by a brief tenure as a physician with Sleep Medicine Specialists of California in 2010. Earlier, Dr. Gharagozlou was an attending physician at Rochester General Hospital between 2006 and 2008, where he was renowned for his engaging teaching style among senior residents and medical students.

Dr. Gharagozlou’s academic journey began with an MD from the University of Tehran in his native country in 1998. He completed an internship and residency at the State University of New York Downstate Health Sciences University in 2006. His postdoctoral fellowship in neuropharmacology at a Stanford University satellite institute marked a significant milestone, providing him the opportunity to conduct groundbreaking research on opioids and contribute valuable insights into developing nonaddictive alternatives. Board-certified by the American Board of Sleep Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine, Dr. Gharagozlou has become recognized by his peers for his reputation for excellence. He speaks fluently in English and Farsi.

Active in his professional community, Dr. Gharagozlou has been a fellow of the American College of Physicians since 2005 and an active member of several other professional organizations, including the California Sleep Society and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Gharagozlou is committed to civic engagement as a volunteer mentor for immigrants assimilating into the community.

Dr. Gharagozlou’s research has been widely published, with notable works on opioid ligands, sleep disorders and rhythmic movement disorder. His publications include co-authored works such as “Pharmacological Profiles of Opioid Ligands at Kappa Opioid Receptors” in 2006 and “Rhythmic Movement Disorder Associated with Respiratory Arousals and Improved by CPAP Titration” in 2009. These contributions underscore Dr. Gharagozlou’s dedication to advancing medical knowledge and improving patient care through research.
