Marcelo J. Zurita

Title: Director
Company: Neurological Restoration & Neuroplasticity, Brain TuneUp Now LLC,
Location: Duluth, Georgia, United States

Marcelo J. Zurita, director at Neurological Restoration & Neuroplasticity/Brain TuneUp Now LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.

With over four decades of experience, Mr. Zurita has built a distinguished career in health care, focusing on treating children with disabilities such as cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, autism, and brain injuries. He has excelled as the director at Neurological Restoration & Neuroplasticity/Brain TuneUp Now LLC since 2019 and as the director medico at Instituto Privado de Restauracion Neurologica in La Paz, Bolivia, since 1983. His educational foundation includes a Bachelor of Science in pre-medicine and pre-medical studies from Oregon State University in 1974, a Doctor of Medicine in medicine and surgery from Facultad de Medicina Universidad Mayor de San Andres in 1974, Licenciado en Medicina y Cirugia from Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Sevilla, Spain, in 1980, therapeutic massage technology from Provo College-Provo in 2009, and he has been licensed in massage therapy in Oregon since 2011.

Reflecting on his path, Dr. Zurita completed medical school and established clinics in Spain. In 1983, he moved to the U.S., passed the medical exams, and began the process of obtaining his medical license. However, he faced a catch-22 situation where some hospitals required a license before he could train there. As a result, he joined the Health Department in Oregon for nearly three years. After his mother’s passing, he returned to Bolivia and later came back to the U.S. with one of his sisters, as his other siblings were already living there. Despite their efforts to persuade their father to move to the U.S., he chose to remain in Bolivia. Consequently, he decided to open a medical practice in Bolivia, focusing on treating adults and children with disabilities. He has been treating adults and children with disabilities, particularly those with paralysis. His work has proven effective in addressing central nervous system problems such as cerebral palsy, polio, and meningitis, as well as conditions like autism and learning disabilities. Remarkably, children with learning disabilities often show significant improvement after just two to three months of treatment. They frequently perform in the top 10% of their class, with some even assisting their teachers in instructing other students.

Dr. Zurita attributes his success to his commitment to providing free or sliding-scale treatments, distinguishing him from many of his peers. Despite advice against offering free services—often due to concerns that they might be perceived as experimental or less valuable—he remains dedicated to this approach. He believes that by offering free or reduced-cost treatments, he can better serve individuals who might otherwise be unable to afford necessary care. This approach contrasts with standard practices in his profession, where many practitioners are constrained by insurance and Medicaid reimbursement rates, leading to disparities in care quality.

In the coming years, Dr. Zurita plans to start a nonprofit organization that offers massage therapy, as it is not currently covered by government programs, unlike ABA therapy. He envisions opening a school to teach his techniques, increasing the number of practitioners skilled in his approach. His ambitious plan includes creating a large clinic in his county to cater to the diverse needs of over 20,000 individuals with autism spectrum disorders, ADD, ADHD, dyslexia, and other neurodevelopmental disabilities. This initiative reflects his commitment to providing specialized care and support for those with complex conditions. By expanding access to quality care, he aims to address the unique challenges associated with neurodevelopmental and neurological disorders, marking a significant milestone in enhancing the lives of individuals and families affected by these conditions.
