Donald B. Hoffman, MD, PhD, MBA, president of DBHMDMEDICINE PA, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.
With nearly four and a half decades of experience to his credit, Dr. Hoffman has established a successful career in health care, specializing in internal medicine, pulmonary diseases, critical care medicine, occupational and environmental medicine, and echocardiography. He currently excels as president of DBHMDMEDICINE PA, a role he has held since 2015. DBHMDMEDICINE PA is a medical group with a focus on cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine. Additionally, he has been the medical director of the Respiratory Care Program at Indian River State College since 1990.
Dr. Hoffman’s experience also includes serving as the medical director for Cardiopulmonary Associates of Martin Medical Group from 2010 to 2015 and as president of Cardiopulmonary Associates from 1991 to 2010. Prior to that, he was president of Treasure Coast Medical Specialists from 1985 to 1991 and director of the Department of Industrial and Preventive Medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital from 1981 to 1985. His early career includes roles as a physician in internal medicine in private practice from 1980 to 1981, a consultant for The Edna McConnell Clark Foundation from 1975 to 1980, and vice president of the same foundation from 1972 to 1975. Additionally, he worked as a senior consultant at McKinsey & Company from 1969 to 1972 and as a member of the technical staff at Bellcomm Inc. in the U.S. Space Program from 1966 to 1969.
Dr. Hoffman is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians , The American College of Chest Physicians, the American College of Cardiology, and the American College of Preventive Medicine in Occupational and Environmental Medicine. He is also a physician scientist member of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, and a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine. He was also honored in 2024 with a Presidential Citation from the Society of Critical Care Medicine for outstanding contributions to the Society of Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Hoffman’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in physics from Muhlenberg College, graduated as valedictorian in 1961, followed by a Master of Science in molecular biophysics from Yale University in 1963 and a Doctor of Philosophy in molecular biology and biophysics from Yale University in 1966. He earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in 1977, completed an internship at Mount Sinai Medical Center in 1978, and finished his residency in internal medicine there in 1980. He further specialized with a fellowship in pulmonary disease at Presbyterian University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in 1984 and a fellowship in critical care medicine and pulmonary disease at Geisinger Medical Center in 1985. Additionally, he earned a Master of Business Administration with specialization in healthcare administration, with honors, from the University of Miami Herbert Business School in 2002.
Dr. Hoffman’s certifications include board certification in Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, obtained in 2008, certification from the National Board of Echocardiography in 2015, certification in Critical Care Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1989, certification in Occupational and Environmental Medicine from the American Board of Preventive Medicine in 1987, certification in Pulmonary Diseases from the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1986, and certification in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1980.
Dr. Hoffman takes great pride in helping numerous patients throughout his career and in his active involvement in various committees and positions within the hospital. He attributes his success to tenacity and maintaining his physical fitness as a longtime runner. Looking ahead, he is planning for retirement but is interested in exploring the mathematical aspects of free trade economic principles. Beyond his professional interests, he hopes to travel extensively.
