She provided her with treatment and is pleased to say that her daughter is now 23 and doing well with minimal OCD symptoms. She underscores the gratification in seeing the measurable progress in OCD therapy and is proud to have the expertise to help those with this challenging disorder.
Throughout her career, Dr. McMahon has made significant contributions to the Dallas, Fort Worth area by spreading awareness about OCD through conferences open to the general public. She also developed expertise in treating OCD by training people and running support groups. Her efforts have helped people receive the right therapy for OCD and improve their condition. She attributes her success to her unwavering commitment to assisting others.
In the coming years, Dr. McMahon looks forward to cherishing the growth and milestones of her grandchildren alongside her continued efforts in organizing successful conferences. Although she is currently 65 years old, she plans to continue working. She is also eager to revive an initiative to host conferences educating the public about OCD post-pandemic. She says providing this essential service to the community is crucial, especially since there is currently a void in the Dallas area for such support groups.
Dr. McMahon believes that the more you give, the more you’ll receive in return. This philosophy motivates her to work hard and contribute positively to the world around her. Additionally, she emphasizes that the secret to a fulfilling life lies in understanding that true happiness comes from giving, not taking. Those who focus solely on their own gain often find themselves feeling unfulfilled and miserable. To her, by shifting their focus to giving and helping others, they can unlock life’s true source of happiness.
In advising aspiring professionals, Dr. McMahon emphasizes the importance of having a genuine passion for helping others. Reflecting on her own experience, she notes that while a PhD was once required to obtain a license in her field, a master’s degree is now sufficient, highlighting changes in industry requirements. She advises that while some might find the constant interaction and listening involved in this work tedious, she personally finds it endlessly engaging and fulfilling.
