Since 1976, he has served as a plastic surgeon in La Jolla, California and is the chief medical officer of Prime Plastic Surgery. In this role, he evaluates patients, discusses surgical options, performs surgeries and follow-ups, oversees the surgical facility, and ensures compliance with all guidelines. Additionally, he has held positions such as chairman of the Section of Plastic Surgery and co-chair of the Surgery Supervisory Committee at Scripps Memorial Hospital. Currently, he sits on the editorial boards of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal of the Aesthetic Society and the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Journal of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He also has a military background, having served two years in the U.S. Navy as a medical officer.

Dr. Singer also created the Emerging Trends Hot Topics task force for plastic surgery, bringing together the Aesthetic Society and the American Society of Plastic Surgery to focus on new procedures, technology, and safety and ethics reports. His professional memberships and leadership roles include being past president of The Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (The Aesthetic Foundation), the Aesthetic Society (American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons), .and chairman of the Board of Trustees of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons He is also a fellow at the American College of Surgeons and has served as past president of the San Diego Plastic Surgery Society, the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, and a member of the Board of Directors for the gold standard of Accreditation of Office based Surgical Facilities, QUADA. Civically, he is a volunteer clinical professor of surgery in plastic surgery at the University of California, San Diego, and has also been involved with San Diego arts and culture organizations, including the LaJolla Playhouse, the San Diego Museum of Art, the Mingei Museum, the LaJolla Music Society, the San Diego Symphony, and the San Diego Humane Society. Additionally, he supports the San Diego Global Zoo and the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International.

Reflecting on his career, Dr. Singer laid a solid foundation for his path by earning his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He began his general surgery residency at Stanford University Medical Center but was drafted into the U.S. Navy during his training and served in Vietnam. Upon returning, he completed his general surgery residency at Santa Barbara Cottage and General Hospitals. He then pursued a plastic surgery residency at Vanderbilt University, where he also served as the plastic surgery chief resident from 1975 to 1976. After completing his training, he moved to California to start his practice.

Dr. Singer takes pride in having made significant strides in improving safety in plastic surgery during his career. One of his most notable achievements was convincing the Aesthetic Society and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons to require all plastic surgeons to be members of their organizations. These groups only operate in accredited or licensed facilities, significantly enhancing patient safety. In recognition of his impressive undertakings, he and his wife were honored by the San Diego Council on Literacy as Leaders in Literacy in the community. He has also received numerous accolades, including the Career Achievement Award from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, as well as being named Best Plastic Surgeon in San Diego and Best Plastic Surgeon in La Jolla. He was the first to be honored by the Aesthetic Foundation as a leader in patient Safety.

Dr. Singer attributes his success to his commitment to continuous learning and the support of his family, especially his wife. He believes that without ongoing education, others will surpass you. He actively participates in leading plastic surgery organizations to promote education and aims to leave a lasting impact on the professionals he trains. In the coming years, he is focused on maintaining his health and making a positive impact in his field. He is working with a group of plastic surgeons, both nationally and internationally, to promote mandatory accreditation for office and ambulatory surgical facilities. This effort is crucial as many countries lack regulations for these facilities, which can compromise safety.
