David A. Gooray, MD, FACC, Cardiologist at University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in cardiology.
Backed by more than four decades of professional experience, Dr. Gooray is an acclaimed cardiologist who has been treating patients with care and compassion for the duration of his career. Serving on the faculty of the internal medicine residency program and as chairman of the research committee at University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center since 1990 and 2013, respectively, he was formerly the chief of cardiology at the hospital from 2003 to 2013. Prior to these illustrious roles, he was a longtime instructor in medicine at Howard University Medical Services with District of Columbia General Hospital from 1986 to 2000, a medical officer in the alcoholic detoxification unit in the Department of Human Resources in Washington, DC, from 1982 to 1984, and a research association in the College of Medicine at Howard University from 1974 to 1976.
To prepare for his illustrious career, Dr. Gooray pursued formal education at the District of Columbia Teachers College, where he received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry in 1974. He subsequently earned a Doctor of Medicine from the College of Medicine at Howard University in 1980. Completing an internship in internal medicine at Howard University with the District of Columbia General Hospital from 1980 to 1981, he subsequently completed a residency at the District of Columbia General Hospital from 1981 to 1983, becoming chief medical resident of the hospital from 1982 to 1983. He is licensed to practice medicine in Maryland and the District of Columbia, and he is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Internal Medicine, and the American Board of Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease.
As a testament to his professional success, Dr. Gooray has accrued numerous accolades throughout his career. The recipient of the Outstanding Student Research Award in 1977, he also received the Outstanding Resident Award from the College of Medicine at Howard University from 1981 to 1982 and the Outstanding Physician Award from University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center in 2012. Looking toward the future, Dr. Gooray hopes to be known as a physician who reflected the true essence of medicine.
