Maria Lourdes Geraldine Banaad-Omiotek, MD, Medical Doctor in Utilization Management at United Healthcare, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Family Preventive Care.
Dr. Banaad-Omiotek has been a doctor for many years, notably for the very large population of Philippine people in Chicago. She has developed a large following because of her ability to communicate with them in the native language so they understand. She was inducted in 2017 to the Via Times Hall of Fame for Excellence in Medicine by the CPRTV Channel and Via Times, and accepted a position in 2017 as director of the scholarship program at Ateneo de Manila University.
With parents who encouraged her talent for science, Dr. Banaad-Omiotek entered the medical field at Ateneo de Manila University, where she earned a BS in biology. She completed a MD from UERMMMCI in Quezon City in the Philippines, fulfilling a longtime suggestion from her parents. Dr. Banaad-Omiotek’s uncle was also a physician, which exposed her to medicine. After serving a residency in internal medicine, she traveled to the U.S., where she further focused on family medicine. She was matched with a family practice residency, which helped her make the decision between that field and surgery.
Dr. Banaad-Omiotek is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Board of Family Medicine, Inc. She has been in the medical profession for 25 years, and is a proud alumna in the Apeneo University Alumni Association. In her free time, she enjoys travel, spending time with family, children’s activities, and practicing martial arts.
