Before founding her own practice, Dr. Ramakrishnan contributed to the establishment of a new pediatric practice at Huguley Medical Associates in Burleson, Texas, from 2016 to 2018. Her earlier tenure at OSF Healthcare System in Rockford, Illinois, between 2008 and 2016 included work as a physician when the organization opened a health center in Rockford. During this period, Dr. Ramakrishnan simultaneously served as the medical director at Walter Lawson Children’s Nursing Home from 2008 to 2014, where she provided oversight and care for medically complex children. Her responsibilities extended to caring for patients in neonatal intensive care and outpatient pediatrics.
Dr. Ramakrishnan’s foundational years in the U.S. began with her residency training at the University of Illinois in Peoria from 2005 to 2008. She was appointed chief resident in pediatrics at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center during the final year of her residency between 2007 and 2008, demonstrating early leadership and clinical excellence. Dr. Ramakrishnan became certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, holds additional credentials as a certified ayurvedic lifetime consultant, and completed the Culinary Health Education Fundamentals course through Harvard Medical School. These certifications and courses have enabled her to offer an integrative approach that combines conventional medicine with complementary therapies tailored to each patient’s needs. More recently, Dr. Ramakrishnan completed a fellowship at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine in 2026.
Before relocating to the U.S., Dr. Ramakrishnan worked as a consultant pediatrician at PM Hospital in 2002 and Vijaya Group of Hospitals in 2003, following the completion of a Doctor of Medicine from Madras Medical College in Chennai, India, in 2000 and subsequent pediatrics training. Her initial clinical experience was gained as a pediatric resident at the Pediatric Emergency Unit at the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children from 2000 to 2002.
Dr. Ramakrishnan has maintained active membership with the American Academy of Pediatrics since 2008. Her dedication extends beyond clinical practice into civic engagement and mentorship. As the founder and president of Thrive Kids Foundation since 2024, she leads efforts to raise community awareness about chronic illnesses affecting children today, an issue she has witnessed grow significantly over two decades in pediatrics. The foundation focuses on education, research and advocacy related to environmental health and nutrition, aiming to address rising rates of chronic diseases, such as autism, allergies and mental health challenges among youth. Additionally, Dr. Ramakrishnan supports research initiatives at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, affiliated with Harvard Medical School, and serves as a mentor for students at various high schools.
A professional journey distinguished by numerous accolades that have recognized her impact on children’s health, Dr. Ramakrishnan received recognition as a Mom-Approved Pediatrician in 2025. She was also named one of the Best Pediatricians in Dallas by D Magazine in 2026. Among Dr. Ramakrishnan’s proudest accomplishments, however, have been the transformative patient outcomes that exemplify her compassionate approach.
Dr. Ramakrishnan recognizes that today’s medical landscape presents unique challenges for practitioners and patients alike. She has observed an alarming rise in chronic conditions among children, a trend she attributes partly to environmental factors, and feels compelled to advocate for systemic solutions through community involvement and policy engagement via Thrive Kids Foundation.
Eager for the future of her career in medicine, Dr. Ramakrishnan is pursuing a highly specialized fellowship in pediatric integrative medicine, with completion anticipated in December 2026, a distinction held by fewer than 100 professionals nationwide.
