Before relocating to the United States, Dr. Laforet-Matos spent over five years as a primary care physician in internal medicine at Dr. Paz Medical Group in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, between 2020 and 2026. During those same years, he was affiliated with the Manatí Medical Center in Manati, Puerto Rico, where he diagnosed and managed complex medical conditions in adult patients as an attending physician in internal medicine. During his tenure at the medical center, Dr. Laforet-Matos played a pivotal role in the instruction and mentorship of medical students and family medicine residents. His efforts included contributing to clinical research and developing academic posters based on rare and complex cases encountered at the center. Dr. Laforet-Matos also served as the president of the Manatí Medical Center’s pharmacy committee and as a staff representative in internal medicine, advocating for interdisciplinary collaboration and clear communication within the health care team.

Dr. Laforet-Matos began his medical career in 2015 as a hospitalist in internal medicine at the Veterans Affairs Clinic in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In this capacity, he gained valuable experience managing complex cases within a diverse patient population, further refining his clinical acumen.

Dr. Laforet-Matos’s academic foundation began with a Bachelor of Science in biology, cum laude, from the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico’s Metropolitan campus in San Juan in 2005. He went on to receive a Doctor of Medicine from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara in Mexico in 2009, and completed a residency in internal medicine at Mayagüez Medical Center in Puerto Rico in 2015. Dr. Laforet-Matos’s professional credentials include board certification in internal medicine through the American Board of Physician Specialties since 2025. He also completed numerous other credentials, including Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates certification and advanced cardiovascular life support certification.

Throughout his career, Dr. Laforet-Matos has presented clinical cases at numerous conventions, sharing insights from rare or challenging scenarios with peers across the medical community. In light of his work, he has been the recipient of several accolades, including the Resident of the Year award and the Harvey E. Ramiez Bates Award in 2015. He was also named a Top Doctor by Revista Balance and, among other honors, won Second Place at the 2023 Resident Case Study Poster Presentation.

Family remains a central influence in Dr. Laforet-Matos’ life and was instrumental in the decision to relocate to Massachusetts for improved quality of life and access to comprehensive health care. Five years ago, he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a challenge he has met with resilience and optimism, and has deepened his empathy as a physician and strengthened his commitment to compassionate patient care.

Dr. Laforet-Matos attributes his achievements to personal integrity and the values instilled by his family. Inspired by stories about his grandfather’s legacy as a physician, he developed an early interest in medicine that became a lifelong calling. Looking ahead, Dr. Laforet-Matos seeks to continue advancing as a physician through ongoing professional development.
