Dr. Steinberg, a private practice psychotherapist and founder of Lynn Steinberg, PhD, LMFT, RCC, has been in her role since 1984. Celebrating 40 years of continued success, she excels as a leading expert who offers services that range from crisis counseling to evaluating candidates for bariatric surgery. Dr. Steinberg has become widely recognized throughout her career for her work with families, couples, groups and individuals.

Beyond her primary role, Dr. Steinberg has served as a trained mediator since 1999 and has mediated numerous cases for the Superior Court, including private divorces, malpractice and other civil matters. Beginning her career as a social worker with Gulf Coast Regional Mental Health Services in Galveston, Texas, in 1974, she spent a decade in this capacity, gaining additional experience with Klein Bottle Youth Services in Santa Barbara, California, California Living Centers, and the Crittenton Center in Los Angeles, before pivoting into private practice. Since that time, she has become well-versed in catering to adolescents, particularly those on probation or residing in foster care, as well as those in the psychiatric unit of a hospital. Dr. Steinberg has also specialized in helping children and adults who have experienced abuse during childhood and has gained notoriety as an expert witness on sexual abuse cases involving children, adults and workplace incidents in court settings with the Los Angeles Superior Court between 1984 and 1996. Furthermore, she served with the University of California Los Angeles Bariatric Surgery from 2006 to 2012, providing evaluations and consultations to prospective patients.

Throughout her career, Dr. Steinberg has also garnered success consulting for domestic violence shelters. She has worked to deinstitutionalize state hospital patients and contributed to developing laws related to patient hospitalization and the statute of limitations for health care workers. Moreover, Dr. Steinberg earned supervising experience in domestic violence and has provided supervision for clinical training.

In the past decade, Dr. Steinberg has become more focused on psychological abuse related to parental alienation, which encompasses false accusations of sexual abuse, by offering a four-day intensive family reunification program in Los Angeles. She also regularly gives talks via YouTube and with various organizations, explaining different aspects of parental alienation and reaching a broad audience through these discussions.

Possessing a rich educational background, Dr. Steinberg received a Bachelor of Arts in clinical psychology from Antioch University in Santa Barbara, followed by a Master of Arts in clinical psychology on campus. Subsequently, she received a Doctor of Philosophy in clinical psychology at California Graduate Institute in Irvine in 1986. Besides her formal education, Dr. Steinberg became a board-certified professional counselor through the American Psychotherapy Association. She also holds a marriage, family and child therapy license through the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and is a registered clinical counselor in Canada. Additionally, Dr. Steinberg completed several mediation seminars and training programs through the University of California Los Angeles and Pepperdine University.

Dr. Steinberg is a professional member of the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and, among others, the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. As a seasoned expert in her field, she has contributed to numerous professional publications, including The California Psychologist. She also authored “You’re Not Crazy: Overcoming Parent/Child Alienation” in 2021.  In light of her success, Dr. Steinberg received a Mental Health Advocate of the Year award in 2024.
