Laying a strong educational foundation, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech in 1979, a Doctor of Medicine from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 1990, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University from 1979 to 1983. Additionally, he completed his residency in anesthesiology at Brooke Army Medical Center from 1991 to 1994 and a fellowship in pain medicine at Stanford University in 2006. He holds active medical licenses in Alaska and California and is certified in perioperative transesophageal echocardiography and is a certified member of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.

In light of his impressive undertakings, Dr. Hinman was honored with the Best Research Project by a Resident, published in an anesthesiology magazine in 1994. His accolades also include the Commanders Award, the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the National Defense Service Ribbon Award, and four Army Commendation Medals.
