Following these accomplishments, he continued to refine his skills at the Baylor College of Medicine through an internship in orthopaedic surgery from 1975 to 1976 and a residency in orthopaedics from 1976 and 1979. Dr. Dennis eventually completed a fellowship in lower back pain at Texas Tech University and a Wiltse Spinal Fellowship in spine surgery at the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center in 1979.
To support his ambitions within his field, Dr. Dennis acquired his certification from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1981. A proponent of lifelong continued education, he would later obtain a Meaningful Use Stage 1 Certification from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services via athenahealth in 2013. Dr. Dennis subsequently attended a master’s course on the iFuse Implant System, a minimally invasive treatment of sacroiliac joint disorders, in 2015.
Beyond his primary responsibilities, Dr. Dennis has participated in numerous endeavors outside of his immediate circles. In addition to his stellar work in the operating room, he found success as an assistant clinical professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center. He has also contributed to articles published in such esteemed journals as The International Journal of Spine Surgery. Renowned as a founding member of the North American Spine Society, Dr. Dennis has been notably affiliated with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Texas Medical Association, and the Bexar County Medical Society.
