Walter Richard Schwartz, MD, Retired Obstetrician-Gynecologist at Elmbrook Memorial Hospital, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in obstetrics-gynecology.
With more than 30 years of professional experience, Dr. Schwartz is a celebrated obstetrician-gynecologist who has notably delivered 5,000 babies throughout his career. Most recently serving as an associate clinical professor of obstetrics-gynecology at the Medical College of Wisconsin from 1976 until his retirement from the industry in 1994, he was also a staff member at Elmbrook Memorial Hospital from 1971 to 1994 during this time. In addition, he served as a staff member at Sinai Samaritan Hospital and West Allis Hospital from 1961 to 1994.
To prepare for his illustrious career, Dr. Schwartz pursued a formal education at the University of Wisconsin, where he earned a Doctor of Medicine in 1955. He subsequently completed an internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, WI, from 1955 to 1956 and a residency in obstetrics-gynecology at Milwaukee County Hospital from 1958 to 1961. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
A volunteer at his local church in his spare time, Dr. Schwartz has contributed myriad articles to professional journals throughout his career. In addition, he formerly served in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1956 until his honorable discharge in 1958. A member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Central Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, he is additionally a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions to medicine, Dr. Schwartz has been highlighted in several editions of Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare. He married the late June Laedtke in 1956 and together they had three children, Linda, Richard and John. He has four wonderful grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
