Dr. Glenda Aleman Moheeputh, optometrist at OK Love Myopia Control Experts, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in optometry.
Building on nearly 30 years of experience in optometry, Dr. Aleman Moheeputh has established herself as an expert in corneal disease and myopia control. Born and raised in relative poverty in Honduras, she spent her childhood selling empanadas on the street. When she was 8 years old, Dr. Aleman Moheeputh received a gift from her mother: an almanac that contained information on such influential women as Mother Teresa and Diana, Princess of Wales. These stories became a deep source of inspiration for Dr. Aleman Moheeputh. They encouraged her to rise above her humble background and find a way to make a greater impact on the world.
Dr. Aleman Moheeputh’s path toward making an impact took the form of working in the optometry field. During her early years gaining experience, she encountered a patient who had gone blind from myopia, aka nearsightedness, a medical condition wherein one’s eyeball malfunctions, causing distant objects to appear blurry. Recognizing the dangers of this issue and how misunderstood it was, myopia became the focus of Dr. Aleman Moheeputh’s career. She has since become a thought leader in this area, regularly conducting workshops to train other doctors on how to perform better myopia management.
In 2018, Dr. Aleman Moheeputh founded iSmart Vision Care, followed by launching OK Love Myopia Control Experts in 2019. She continues to serve as the chief executive officer of both companies. Through both organizations, Dr. Aleman Moheeputh offers thoughtful optometry treatment to patients struggling with myopia. She also provides colleagues with resources and tools to help them treat myopia. Dr. Aleman Moheeputh has collaborated with major health care companies, including Alcon, Euclid, Johnson & Johnson and Topcon. She has also showcased her expertise through articles in Myopia Focus, a United Kingdom-based publication.
As part of the progress on her professional journey, Dr. Aleman Moheeputh has relied on a strong education. She first obtained a Bachelor of Science in vision science and physiological optics from Nova Southeastern University. Subsequently, Dr. Aleman Moheeputh earned a Doctor of Optometry from the same institution in 2017. Among other credentials, she has completed certification as a yoga instructor, a scleral lens fitter, an orthokeratologist and in corneal refractive therapy (CRT).
Known for her contributions as a civic-minded citizen, Dr. Aleman Moheeputh has carried her focus on myopia and other eye issues beyond her career. She was formerly a lead ambassador for Optometry Divas, a professional network for women in her field. More recently, Dr. Aleman Moheeputh has contributed her expertise as the chair of the advisory committee for Broward College’s opticianry program. She is additionally working toward the creation of a new nonprofit that she plans to call the Demyopia Brighter Futures Foundation, which will raise awareness about myopia among elementary school students to help achieve early intervention.
Beyond her esteemed professional life, Dr. Aleman Moheeputh is a loving mother to five children, aged 27, 25, 23, 14 and 12. Outside of work hours, she finds joy through playing tennis, meditating, practicing yoga, gardening, cooking and dancing. While continuing to expand her current businesses, Dr. Aleman Moheeputh is also writing a children’s book on the subject of myopia.
