Before establishing his practice in Alaska, Dr. Prasad was instrumental in founding the Henry Ford Innovation Institute within the Henry Ford Health System in 2009. As the executive director, he fostered an environment conducive to medical innovation and product development until 2014. Dr. Prasad’s tenure at Henry Ford Health System also included roles as the head of surgical oncology and chief of gastrointestinal cancer surgery. Additionally, he served as the medical director of Henry Ford Innovations in Detroit, Michigan.

Dr. Prasad’s illustrious career also included significant academic contributions. He was a professor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, for over five years. He also garnered success as an assistant professor of surgery at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon.

Having begun his professional journey by obtaining a Bachelor of Science, with honors, from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Dr. Prasad subsequently earned a Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State University in Detroit. Additional educational pursuits to his credit included a surgical residency at Detroit Medical Center, a fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, and a second fellowship at Harvard Medical School at Harvard University in Boston, further honing his skills and knowledge and laying a strong foundation for his future endeavors in medicine.

Dr. Prasad’s professional affiliations include being a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and membership in the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Gastroenterological Association and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. These memberships have allowed him to network with like-minded professionals while remaining at the forefront of his industry.

Actively involved in civic activities, Dr. Prasad sponsors athletic activities for children with special needs through Challenge Alaska and supports Let Every Woman Know. He has also served on the board of an organization where he provided pro bono medical operations for those in need.

Dr. Prasad’s contributions have been recognized with several accolades, such as the Best of Anchorage Award in the cancer treatment category by the Anchorage Award Program in 2018. However, his dedication to training residents has been one of his most notable achievements, ensuring that the next generation carries forward his legacy.

Inspired throughout his life by his father, a dedicated and successful surgeon, Dr. Prasad was highly influenced by him to attend medical school. Looking toward future opportunities, he aims to recruit and cultivate surgeons from Alaska to continue his work for many years to come.
