Shannon Ashley, MD, Preventive Medicine Physician at Prenuvo, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctor for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Family and Preventative Medicine.
Dr. Ashley is lauded for her expertise in the health care field as a preventive medicine physician at Prenuvo, a family preventative medicine institution based in Redwood City, California, that focuses on proactive cancer and major disease screening without the use of contrast or radiation. Since 2024, she has been instrumental in her role, concentrating on preventive health care, screening and personalized wellness for her patients. Dr. Ashley also caters to women’s health, patients involved in obesity medicine, and those suffering from rheumatology disorders.
Before joining Prenuvo, Dr. Ashley was a family physician at AvitaCare Atlanta, a primary career clinic, from 2021 to 2024. She initially served in the same capacity at Piedmont, a nonprofit health care system comprising 25 hospitals and over 1,700 other facilities throughout Georgia, between 2015 and 2021. These foundational roles have been critical to her continued success as she excels in family and preventative medicine.
In preparation for her medical career, Dr. Ashley received a Bachelor of Science in biology, biological sciences and molecular biology at Spelman College in Atlanta in 2006 and a Doctor of Medicine from Boston University in 2012. Subsequently, she completed a family and preventive medicine residency and received family medicine board certification through the American Board of Family Medicine.
Initially desiring to become an emergency room physician, Dr. Ashley began suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, a chronic condition that she developed while completing her residency. Choosing to change the trajectory of her career, since she knew that the physical demands of emergency room medicine might not be advantageous for her, she pivoted into family and preventative medicine. As such, Dr. Ashley now incorporates her own experiences into her work. As both a patient and a provider, she empathizes with her patients and uses her knowledge and experiences to meet their needs better.
As part of her continued success, Dr. Ashley is an active member of the American Medical Association, the American Board of Family Medicine and the National Medical Association. These affiliations allow her to remain at the forefront of medicine while networking with like-minded individuals.
Passionate about giving back, Dr. Ashley frequently volunteers with various nonprofit charitable organizations, such as Hands-on Atlanta. Hands-on Atlanta is a community nonprofit that connects volunteers with other nonprofits and local schools that need assistance with food insecurities, education, and environmental initiatives. Dr. Ashley also engages with local charities during the holiday season. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was invaluable when she tutored students in science and mathematics. She also tutored non-native English speakers.
Drawing tremendous satisfaction from her work, Dr. Ashley is continuously inspired by the opportunity to help others who need expert advice. Recognizing that there is much room for improvement in her niche area of medicine, her goal is to advocate for family medicine, outpatient care and insurance while helping to reshape how medicine is practiced. As health care continues to evolve, Dr. Ashley also notes the importance of technology, how it will affect the future of medicine, and how physicians will communicate with their patients.
