Huy N. Trinh, MD, physician at San Jose Gastroenterology, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.
For 34 years, Dr. Trinh has demonstrated excellence as a board-certified gastroenterologist. Born in Vietnam, he immigrated to the United States in 1975 and began pursuing an education at the University of California, Berkeley, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry with honors. Continuing his education at the Northwestern University School of Medicine, he earned a Doctor of Medicine in 1986, going on to complete a residency in internal medicine at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center, a hospital complex affiliated with the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Medicine. Obtaining a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of California, Irvine, he completed his medical studies in 1991. Since then, he has served as a physician at San Jose Gastroenterology, which he helped found. In addition, he is the founder and co-medical director of the San Jose Liver Tumor Board, which provides comprehensive medical care for patients with liver cancer, as well as a founding member of Montpelier Surgery Center and Advanced Surgery Center.
Reflecting on his career, Dr. Trinh considers his most notable achievement to be building the Montpelier Surgery Center and Advanced Surgery Center alongside a group of physicians. Through both centers, he was given the opportunity and ability to serve many populations across the U.S. He attributes his success to his passion for healthcare and compassion for the community. Since first attending medical school, he has sought to make an impact on the community and deliver outstanding contributions to society, and he is proud to have developed the field of gastroenterology both through his research and through his direct work with patients.
For his contributions to the field of gastroenterology and work to improve liver health in Vietnam, Dr. Trinh was awarded Humanitarian of the Year by the San Francisco Ho Chi Minh Sister City Committee and received a certificate of commendation from the County of Santa Clara County of Supervisors. Placing value on professional collaboration and communication, he remains a fellow with the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases and maintains membership to the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Moving forward, Dr. Trinh strives to continue contributing to research studies that will advance the field of medicine and provide healthcare access to more people. He is the author of over 60 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including “Real-world Effectiveness and Tolerability of Interferon-Free Direct-Acting Antiviral for 15,849 Patients With Chronic Hepatitis C: A Multinational Cohort Study,” published in the Journal of Clinical and Translational Hepatology, “The Efficacy of Entecavir Therapy in Chronic Hepatitis B Patients With Suboptimal Response to Adefovir,” published in Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and “Switching to Tenofovir Alafenamide in Patients With Virologically Suppressed Chronic Hepatitis B and Renal or Hepatic Impairment: Final Week 96 Results From an Open-Label, Multicentre, Phase 2 Study,” published in The Lancet Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
