Darren D. In addition to his role at the military medical center, Dr. Love has been a licensed clinical psychologist and owner of his own private practice, Love Psychological & Consulting Services, since 2021.
Specializing in treating patients with chronic pain conditions, mainly adults in the military, their dependents and retirees, Dr. Love conducts individual and group therapy sessions. He also treats patients suffering from other issues, including depression and anxiety, and conducts couples therapy. Dr. Love utilizes various methods to treat patient systems, including cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and hypnosis.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Love garnered success as a licensed clinical psychologist at Thriveworks Administrative Services LLC from 2017 to 2023, as a clinical psychologist at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth between 2013 and 2019, and as a licensed clinical psychologist at Psychology Specialists from 2011 to 2013. His expertise in clinical psychology and treating chronic pain conditions has been pivotal to his success.
In preparation for his career in mental health care, Dr. Love obtained a master’s degree in biomedical sciences at Midwestern University Glendale Campus in 2007, a Doctor of Psychology in clinical psychology at Midwestern University Glendale Campus in 2011. During his studies, he completed an internship in behavioral medicine at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare-All Saints in Racine, WI from 2010 to 2011, where he worked exclusively with medical patients. The opportunity helped clarify his focus on health-related mental health issues. To further advance his career, Dr. Love obtained a Master of Science in psychopharmacology from New Mexico State University in 2019 and he is pursuing a master’s degree in Medical Cannabis Sciences and Therapeutic at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy.
In addition to his extensive educational background, Dr. Love is a certified pain management professional through the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. These credentials have been pivotal to his success in the industry.
Dr. Love remains abreast of industry trends as a member of several industry-related organizations, such as the American Psychological Association and the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis. His research contributions have notably resulted in his 2011 article, ‘Managing Holiday Stress.’
In light of his hard work, Dr. Love has received several accolades, including a United States Military in 2022 and from the U.S. Navy for his work with the Pain ECHO program. His many professional accomplishments are a testament to his ability to empower patients and provide them with tools that lead them to more fulfilling lives despite their pain.
Enthusiastic about the future of his career, Dr. Love aims to achieve board certification in clinical health psychology and study to obtain prescription authority and become a prescribing psychologist.
