With nearly three and a half decades of experience, Mr. Geissler has built a successful career in consulting services and health care. Since 2019, he has served as the principal of Medicorum LLC, where he provides strategic consulting services to pharmaceutical and medical device companies. His responsibilities include guiding these companies in effectively communicating with their target audiences and ensuring the efficient execution of study designs. He also advises on selecting optimal study sites, enhancing enrollment strategies, and addressing potential challenges in the execution process.
Mr. Geissler’s experience also includes serving as senior vice president of medical affairs at Viridian Therapeutics Inc. from 2023 to 2024, vice president of medical affairs and program lead for Anti-VISTA Antibody at Curis from 2021 to 2023, vice president of medical affairs at Horizon from 2020 to 2021, and chief medical officer at Lumicell from 2017 to 2019. His tenure at Sanofi Genzyme included roles as vice president and regional medical head from 2016 to 2017, regional chief medical officer for Japan, Australia, and South Korea from 2014 to 2016, and senior medical director of oncology, hematology, and transplantation from 2012 to 2014.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Geissler was principal medical scientific expert for global clinical development at Novartis in 2012 and director of medical affairs for infectious disease, transplantation, and immunology at Novartis from 2010 to 2012 and associate director of medical affairs in immunoscience at Bristol-Myers Squibb from 2008 to 2010. In academia, he was an assistant professor in the department of surgery at University of Wisconsin Health from 2002 to 2008, and his surgical experience includes staff surgeon roles in the department of surgery and solid organ transplant at the University of Leipzig from 1998 to 1999 and 2001 to 2002. He is also involved with the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Transplantation, and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, all of which he has been a part of for over two decades. He is also a member of The Transplantation Society, the German Society of Surgery, as well as Freemasonry and Shriners International. Laying a solid educational foundation, he earned his Doctor of Medicine in general surgery and solid organ transplant surgery from the Technical University of Munich in 1991, followed by a PhD in immunology from the University of Tübingen in 1995.
In the coming years, Dr. Geissler is committed to giving back to the society that has invested in him by mentoring, educating, and providing valuable resources while maintaining a high level of productivity. Reflecting on his journey, he acknowledges that he never anticipated being in his current position or even living in the United States, highlighting the unpredictability of life. He embraces the idea of adapting to new challenges and staying flexible about his future. While he does not adhere to a rigid plan, he hopes to continue contributing meaningfully and sharing his expertise, particularly through teaching and mentoring the next generation. His ultimate goal is to remain engaged and impactful, helping others grow by providing guidance and allowing them to learn from their experiences.
