He currently serves as an MD and anesthesiologist at The HEAG Pain Management Center PA, a position he has held since 2007. In this role, he engages with the community to encourage patients to seek care, receives, examines, and evaluates patients, and creates comprehensive pain management plans tailored to their needs. Founded in 2006, HEAG Pain Clinic is a private medical practice based in North Carolina, with four locations across the state. The clinic focuses on diagnosing, minimizing, and treating pain at various stages, from sub-acute to chronic. The specialists at HEAG come from diverse backgrounds, including physical medicine, rehabilitation, clinical psychology, neuro-biofeedback, and physical therapy. The clinic incorporates the latest advancements in pain management, utilizing implantable devices such as spinal cord stimulators and neuraxial drug delivery systems, with a focus on minimizing opioid use.

Dr. Gyarteng-Dakwa’s experience also includes serving as an assistant professor of anesthesia and critical care medicine at Yale University from 2001 to 2006, as well as working as a flight surgeon with Lufthansa. Laying a solid educational foundation, he earned a degree from the National Science College in Ghana and a Doctor of Medicine from Volgograd State Medical School in Russia in 1990. After immigrating to the United States, he completed an internship in the Department of Pediatrics at Seton Hall University from 1995 to 1997, followed by postgraduate medical education and anesthesia residency training at Howard University, Washington DC, from 1997 to 2000. He then completed a fellowship program at Yale University in Connecticut from 2000 to 2001. Additionally, he is certified by the European College of Aviation Medicine.

Dr. Gyarteng-Dakwa holds memberships with the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the North Carolina Society of Anesthesiologists, and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. In recognition of his impressive undertakings, he was honored with the Patients’ Choice Award in 2008, 2009, and 2010, as well as the Compassionate Doctor Recognition in 2009 and 2010 from Vitals.com. Furthermore, the International Association of HealthCare Professionals selected him to be featured in the premier publication of The Leading Physicians of the World. He attributes his success to hard work, dedication to his patients, and a commitment to their continued care.

Dr. Gyarteng-Dakwa is deeply committed to charity work both in Ghana and North Carolina. He is also closely monitoring developments in Ghana with the goal of providing more effective medical services there, ensuring that people have access to the same level of treatment as in other parts of the world. In the coming years, he hopes to establish a clinic in Ghana and expand the school he supports, and he is currently engaged in the reconstruction of the school’s facilities, which cater to 400 students from kindergarten through their mid-teens. Additionally, he is focused on providing assisted living and adult day care services for chronically ill patients who often face discrimination and neglect, particularly in educational settings. His goal is to create a comprehensive assisted living center where these individuals can receive the care and attention they need. He is also working on developing the medical tourism industry in Ghana and advancing interventional pain management services in Sub-Saharan Africa for chronically ill patients, further expanding his impact on healthcare in the region.
