With 28 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Andrade has excelled at Woodhull Medical Center, also known as NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull, as bariatric surgeon since 2019 and chair of the department of surgery since 2021. He began his career as a researcher at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center from 2003 to 2004. At the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, he worked as a clinical instructor from 2009 to 2010.   

Dr. Andrade continued his career as a general surgeon with the New York Bariatric Group from 2010 to 2014. He contributed to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital as chairman of the department of general surgery from 2014 to 2018 and chief of metabolic and bariatric surgery from 2016 to 2018. He garnered a stellar reputation as a minimally invasive and bariatric surgeon co-director at Brooklyn Bariatric Group from 2018 to 2020.

Before embarking on his professional path, Dr. Andrade pursued an education at the Central University of Venezuela, where he earned a Medical Doctorate in 2001. He continued his academic efforts at the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine, completing a surgical internship in the general surgery residency program in 2005. He successfully fulfilled general surgery residencies at Mount Sinai Medical Center of Miami in 2007 and at the University of Texas Medical Branch in 2009. He concluded his studies at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, finishing a fellowship in laparoendoscopic and bariatric surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and surgical endoscopy in 2010.

In addition to his primary vocation, Dr. Andrade remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to his areas of expertise. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Mayo Clinic Alumni Association, and the Venezuelan-American Medical Association. He was a fellow with the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

In light of his impressive undertakings, Dr. Andrade has accrued several accolades throughout his career. He received an award from the Dominican Medical Association. He became a surgery department chairman at the age of 37 and has dedicated himself to the role for nearly half of his 28-year career. He has participated in medical missions facilitated by his association with the Venezuelan-American Medical Association which collaborates with U.S. Navy hospital ships. In the immediate future, he intends to expand the services that he can provide and to go back to school to obtain a master’s degree or a doctorate.
