Warren J. Kortz, MD, FACS, Medical Director for Type 1 Diabetes Clinical Development with Vertex Pharmaceuticals, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health care.
Since 2022, Dr. Kortz has contributed his expertise as the medical director for type 1 diabetes clinical development at Vertex Pharmaceuticals. In this role, he is responsible for training surgeons and conducting surgery on patients in clinical trials. From 2015 to 2022, he shared his knowledge as an educator on human anatomy and physiology at Valor Christian High School and for undergraduate students. From 1987 to 2014, Dr. Kortz excelled as a general and transplant surgeon with SurgOne PC.
In preparation for his career, Dr. Kortz attended Dartmouth College and earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry. He went on to graduate from the University of Colorado School of Medicine with a Doctor of Medicine. Following his formal degrees, he completed a general surgery residency at Duke University Medical Center. For his academy excellence, Dr. Kortz was named the salutatorian of his class at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
Alongside his primary roles, Dr. Kortz has been a co-leader and provider of the discovery program at Valor Christian High School in Kenya since 2019 and in Ethiopia since 2017. He has participated in numerous mission trips to Haiti and Mexico. In the coming years, Dr. Kortz plans to continue changing the lives of patients with diabetes. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, skiing, walking, camping and reading.
