With more than 45 years of experience, Dr. Berger has excelled since 2018 as the governing trustee of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Board of Trustees. Prior to this role, he was the chairman and chief executive officer of ARIAD Pharmaceuticals Inc. from 2016 to 2019 and executive chairman of Medinol Inc. from 2017 to 2018. Dr. Berger garnered additional experience as a professor of radiology and associate professor of medicine at Emory University from 1984 to 1986, before which he was an associate professor at Yale University from 1983 to 1984. He began his career in 1977 as a resident at Yale New Haven Hospital, after which he served Yale University as an assistant professor of radiology and medicine from 1981 to 1983.
Eminently qualified, Dr. Berger graduated from Colgate University, magna cum laude, with a Bachelor of Arts in 1972. He went on to earn a Doctor of Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine in 1977 before completing his residency at the Yale New Haven Hospital’s department of diagnostic radiology in 1981. In 1981, he was a visiting fellow in the cardiac unit at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Berger is licensed to practice medicine in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Connecticut. He is also a diplomate of the American Board of Nuclear Medicine and completed additional medical and research training.
Dr. Berger has found success through his creative works, serving as founding editor of the American Journal of Cardiac Imaging from 1985 to 1989. He was an editor of Nuclear Medicine Communications from 1985 to 1988 and a member of the editorial board for Investigative Radiology from 1984 to 1988. Alongside these positions, Dr. Berger has contributed numerous articles to professional journals and holds patents in his field. He has been recognized for his achievements with numerous honors, including the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Biotechnology in the Northeast Region and the Gold Stevie Award for a Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology Company CEO, both in 2013. Dr. Berger has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering and Who’s Who in the World. He has also been recognized as a Marquis Who’s Who Worldwide Humanitarian.
