Stavros N. Stavropoulos, MD, Chief of Endoscopy at Archbold Memorial Hospital, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in endoscopy.
Dr. Stavropoulos has found success in medicine for more than 20 years. Since 2022, he has served as the chief of endoscopy and the director of the program in advanced GI endoscopy and endoscopic surgery at Archbold Memorial Hospital. From 2007 to 2021, Dr. Stavropoulos served as the chief of endoscopy and director of the program in advanced GI endoscopy at New York University’s Winthrop University Hospital.
In 2021, Dr. Stavropoulos garnered experience as a professor of medicine at New York University’s Long Island School of Medicine. From 2009 to 2019, he was an adjunct professor of clinical medicine at the same institution, and from 2015 to 2016, he served as an attending physician and clinical professor of medicine at the Temple University of Medicine. From 2005 to 2007, Dr. Stavropoulos was the director of endoscopic ultrasound at NewYork-Presbyterian. From 2002 to 2003, he was an instructor in clinical medicine at Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Dr. Stavropoulos prepared for his career with a Bachelor of Science in molecular biophysics and biochemistry at Yale University, graduating summa cum laude in 1990. In 1994, he obtained a Doctor of Medicine from the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, after which he completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center in 2002. Dr. Stavropoulos completed an advanced endoscopy fellowship at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital in 2002. He is board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine.
Alongside his primary pursuits, Dr. Stavropoulos has contributed to more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and more than 10 book chapters. For his accomplishments, he was named a fellow of the Japanese Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Society and the New York Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in 2019. Since 2015, he has been inducted into Castle-Connolly’s Top Doctors in New York Magazine and Newsday, and in the same year, he became a fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. Dr. Stavropoulos considers being the first to conduct a peroral endoscopic myotomy in the United States in 2009 the highlight of his career.
