Dr. Annette Beyer-Mears, Physiologist at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in Ophthalmology.

Dr. Beyer-Mears has served as an associate professor in the department of ophthalmology for the University of Medicine and Dentistry from 1986 to 2014, as part of the New Jersey Medical School at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. She was previously a member of the department of physiology, as well as a visiting associate professor to the University of Wisconsin from 1995 to 2014, in the department of ophthalmology and vision science. Dr. Beyer-Mears has been most proud of her accomplishment with the 1908 Eugene A. Gilmore House, or the Airplane House, which her family has owned since 1930. She has worked to advance ophthalmology and pharmacology research while putting her compensation toward restoring the Gilmore House, a project she has worked on for 20 years.

Dr. Beyer-Mears appeared in Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women. She attended Vassar College and went on to earn a MS from Fairleigh Dickinson University, ultimately completing a PhD from the College of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey. Dr. Beyer-Mears became a fellow of the National Institutes of Health and Weill Cornell Medicine in 1963, working for two years with Cornell University. She has worked with Rutgers since 1974.

As a contributor to numerous articles in Diabetic Lens & Kidney Therapy as well as several medical journals, Dr. Beyer-Mears received research awards early in her career from both Rutgers and the National Institutes of Health, which supported her with NEI grant funding from 1980 to 1995. She later received grants from the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, now the JDRF, and Pfizer. Dr. Beyer-Mears is a member of numerous medical groups, including the American Physiological Society, the Association for Physiological Science, the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, the Royal Society of Medicine, and the International Society for Eye Research. She has also received a 2007 Wright Spirit Award from the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy.
