Since 2017, he has also served as the chairman elect of the department of hematology-oncology at Hoag Hospital, where he has been a physician and hematologist-oncologist since 1980. His tenure at Hoag Hospital includes working as the chief of medical staff from 2009 to 2011 and the immediate past chief of staff from 2011 to 2013. Additionally, he was appointed as the chairman of the department of hematology-oncology from 2005 to 2007
To support his professional ambitions, Dr. Mahdavi initially pursued an education at the University of Tehran School of Medicine, from which he earned a Doctor of Medicine in 1969. He subsequently completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Illinois in Chicago and a fellowship in hematology-oncology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, where he ultimately graduated in 1979. His board certification in internal medicine in hematology and medical oncology underscores his comprehensive expertise in these fields.
Throughout his career, Dr. Mahdavi has been an active member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Physicians as a fellow, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Medical Association, and the Medical Oncology Association of Southern California. His dedication to professional development is further exemplified by his participation in board conferences on brain tumors, breast cancer, and lung cancer, as well as hematology tumor board conferences.
Dr. Mahdavi’s stellar contributions extend beyond his professional endeavors. He has been recognized for his humanitarian efforts with accolades such as Humanitarian of the Year from the National Conference for Community and Justice in 2002 and being celebrated as the Top Physician in Orange County in both 2021 and 2022. His civic involvement includes membership on the Physicians Governance Committee at Hoag Family Cancer Institute from 2012 to 2015. Between 1969 and 1972, Dr, Magdavi provided his knowledge and services to the Iranian Navy as a physician.
