Leveraging over 40 years of medical expertise, initially in emergency medicine and then in occupational medicine, Dr. Gest served as the founder, medical director and occupational medicine specialist at the Emeryville Occupational Medical Center in 2002. He worked in this capacity until 2020. Under his guidance, the center expanded to four locations with a staff of 100 employees, significantly enhancing occupational health services for injured workers.
Dr. Gest’s career also included ownership and directorship of the Santa Cruz Occupational Medical Center from 2009 to 2014. His earlier tenure as the regional medical director at Concentra between 1998 and 2002 also contributed to managing large-scale medical operations. Earlier in his career, Dr. Gest was the regional medical director at Emergency Medical Services Associates from 1991 to 1997, where he honed his skills in emergency care.
Having begun his medical journey as a doctor at West Yellowstone National Park, Dr. Gest treated his first patient, a smokejumper who had suffered a severe accident. This experience set the foundation for his career in emergency medicine, one that has been evident in his long-standing service as an emergency physician providing critical medical services in high-pressure situations.
Dr. Gest’s academic background included earning a Doctor of Medicine from Thomas Jefferson University in 1985 and completing a residency in family practice at the Medical Center of Delaware. He also became a board-certified family physician, a testament to his dedication to providing exceptional medical care to his patients. Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Gest is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, reflecting his commitment to staying connected with industry advancements and best practices.
