Dr. Barnita Guha Haldar, MD, PhD, American Cancer Society fellow and postdoctoral fellow at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in biomedical science and research.
For nearly 15 years, Dr. Haldar has demonstrated thoughtfulness and leadership both as a doctor and a medical researcher. She first worked as a clinician in her home country of India, completing a junior residency at R.G. Kar Medical College’s Hospital Kolkata. In 2015, Dr. Haldar moved to the United States to continue pursuing her PhD and became more heavily invested in research. After finishing her education, she contributed as an associate physician scientist at Health Advocacy and Medical Exploration Society Inc.’s EMS Pandemic Response Research Lab and as a pre-med instructor at DuxVitae. Since 2021, Dr. Haldar has served as a postdoctoral fellow at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, and beginning in 2025 she has concurrently accepted the role of American Cancer Society fellow at the same institution. She primarily works in the laboratory, conducting a wide variety of molecular experiments with a focus on developing therapeutic strategies to help those suffering from pancreatic cancer.
Dr. Haldar’s esteemed career has been driven by a strong educational background, beginning with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the West Bengal University of Health Sciences in 2009. She obtained an MD in biochemistry from R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in 2014. After moving to the U.S., Dr. Haldar earned a PhD from the University of South Alabama’s Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine in 2020. Alongside her academic journey, she has presented her research at numerous international conferences and through various professional journals. Dr. Haldar has been published in Cancer Research, the American Association for Cancer Research Journal, Care Medicine Journal, the Journal of Experimental and Chemical Research, Glycobiology Journal, and the Journal of Emergency Medical Science, among others.
In addition to her career, Dr. Haldar is a loving wife and mother. When she’s not working, she enjoys traveling to different countries to experience new cultures and explore new types of food. Moving forward, Dr. Haldar remains committed to biomedical research. She plans to continue investigating pancreatic cancer and other forms of cancer that are resistant to traditional therapies. Dr. Haldar hopes to play a key part in introducing new and more successful forms of treatment for some of the deadliest forms of cancer in the world.
