Dr. Dovat’s impressive educational background includes earning a Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry as well as a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Novi Sad in Serbia in 1988. Influenced by mentors such as Stephen Smaled and Stephen Feig from the University of California, Los Angeles, as well as Dr. Cheston M. Berlin from Penn State during his residency, he has dedicated himself to pediatric hematology and oncology with a focus on effecting positive change through clinical practice and research. Furthermore, Dr. Dovat has exhibited his adept strategic mind with his skills in chess, having obtained the title of FIDE Master from the International Chess Federation.
Dr. Dovat has been presented with a number of accolades over the years, including the Faculty Excellence in Career Mentoring Award from Penn State College of Medicine in 2018 and the Distinguished Educator Award from the Woodward Center for Excellence in Health Sciences Education in 2023. Moreover, his stellar contributions to the field have been recognized by the American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology with the Young Investigator Award in 2001. The recipient of grants from the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Dr. Dovat was also notably selected for inclusion among the Best Doctors in America between 2008 and 2011.
