Inderjit Singh, MD, president of Gateway Nephrology, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in kidney health.

Across a career spanning nearly 40 years, Dr. Singh has established himself as an expert in kidney health. He currently fulfills important roles across multiple organizations, most notably serving as president of Gateway Nephrology. With this company since 2002, Dr. Singh offers comprehensive treatment for kidney disorders, including nephrotic syndrome, urinary tract infections, kidney stones, renal failure and more. In addition to running Gateway Nephrology, he provides guidance as clinical director at the Iron County Medical Center and Perry County Memorial Hospital, and as medical director at the Perry County Dialysis Center, Fresenius Kidney Care Metro North, the Jefferson County Dialysis Center and the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. Prior to his current positions, Dr. Singh built his reputation as a staff nephrologist at Nephroplex Dialysis of Marion and BMA of Carbondale. He also contributed as a staff internist and nephrologist at the Regional Clinic in Carterville, Illinois, and as the chairman of the infection control committee at the Heartland Regional Medical Center (formerly known as Marion Memorial Hospital). 

Dr. Singh’s professional life has also been marked by a commitment to educating the next generation of doctors. In that respect, he has offered his services as a clinical assistant and professor of medicine at Saint Louis University’s School of Medicine since 1997. Before that, Dr. Singh gained teaching experience as an instructor at Washington University in St. Louis’ School of Medicine and as a clinical assistant and professor of internal medicine at Southern Illinois University’s School of Medicine. His early academic work includes time as a research fellow at the University of Michigan, a research associate in medical transplantation at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and a research associate in endocrinology at the Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (formerly known as the Chicago Medical School’s University of Health Sciences). Dr. Singh has previously completed residencies in internal medicine at Easton Hospital and at the University of New Delhi. His first internship took place at Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi in 1980.

Much of Dr. Singh’s success can be attributed to his education, which he pursued in his home country of India. He earned an MD from Maulana Azad Medical College in New Delhi in 1986. After immigrating to the United States in 1987, Dr. Singh obtained numerous certifications, including in nephrology from the American Board of Internal Medicine and advanced cardiac life support. He is licensed to practice medicine in Illinois and Missouri and has previously been licensed in Pennsylvania and Michigan.

Beyond his primary vocation, Dr. Singh has made many noteworthy contributions to the wider medical field. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American Society of Nephrology and the National Kidney Foundation Inc. Dr. Singh has served as a councilor for the Missouri State Medical Association since 2013 and maintains membership in the Society of General Internal Medicine, the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society and the Renal Physicians Association. He has also co-written numerous articles and papers in professional journals and book chapters for medical manuals. 

In commemoration of his accomplishments, Dr. Singh has received many accolades. He was given the John H. Updegrove Research Prize and the House Staff Teaching Award by Easton Hospital. Dr. Singh has been invited as a speaker for events held by the American Nephrology Nurses Association and the National Kidney Foundation. In 2003, he was listed as one of the best doctors in America.
