Dr. Singer has been the owner and surgeon of Alan Singer DDS, PC, since 1981, his own private practice where his patients applaud him for his compassion and professionalism.
To prepare for his career, Dr. Singer pursued formal education at Brooklyn College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology in 1973. He subsequently earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery in dentistry and oral and maxillofacial surgery from the Howard University College of Dentistry, graduating at the top of his class in 1978. He completed his residency at Howard University College of Dentistry, the Washington DC VA Medical Center, and the DC General Hospital, where he served as chief resident in his concluding year.
Alongside his private practice, Dr. Singer has been teaching at his alma mater, Howard University College of Dentistry, since 1981, and was the former president of the District of Columbia Dental Society. Additionally, he has maintained affiliation with several organizations related to his area of expertise, including the American Dental Association, the Maimonides Dental Society, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, and the American Society of Osseointegration, among numerous others.
Equally passionate about his community, Dr. Singer has been providing free oral surgery to several groups within his community, such as the N Street Village, the Spanish Catholic Center, and the Hebrew Home in Rockville. He also enjoys giving free dental care to underprivileged youth and elementary school students, as well as survivors of the Holocaust in the District of Columbia metropolitan area.
As a testament to his professional success, Dr. Singer has accrued several accolades throughout his impressive career. A fellow of the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists, he has received numerous honors through Howard University College of Dentistry, including the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award, the Dean’s Award, and the John Turner Award. Likewise, he was the recipient of the Sterling V. Mead Award from the District of Columbia Dental Society, the highest honor given by the organization. In addition, he received the Israel (Sonny) Shulman Award from the Maimonides Dental Society and the Avodah Award for Community Service from the Washington Hebrew Congregation.
