Dr. Thorn’s journey in dentistry began in Venezuela. After earning a Doctor of Dental Surgery from Universidad Nacional Experimental Rómulo Gallegos in 2002, where she ranked third in her graduating class, she immigrated to the United States. Arriving without fluent knowledge of English, she demonstrated remarkable perseverance by learning the language independently while working as a dental assistant for minimum wage. Following her marriage and starting a family in Texas, Dr. Thorn resumed her academic pursuits to prepare for dental board examinations.
Dr. Thorn’s educational path included coursework at the University of Houston before continuing her studies i the University of Puerto Rico and Indiana University Indianapolis. At Indiana University School of Dentistry, she earned a Master of Science in dentistry with a focus on prosthodontics in 2019 and ranked third in her class. She also completed internships in prosthodontics at UTHealth Houston in 2007 and the University of Puerto Rico in 2014. Dr. Thorn further refined her skills as a senior resident and graduate teaching assistant at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, now Indiana University Indianapolis and Purdue University.
A defining moment in Dr. Thorn’s professional journey was inspired by her mother’s experience with dentures following a childhood accident. Unsatisfied with the results achieved by previous dentists for her mother, she was determined to make a meaningful difference through prosthodontics. Upon completing her postgraduate program, Dr. Thorn restored her mother’s teeth using a close-up photograph of her own smile as reference—a testament to both technical skill and personal dedication.
Throughout her career spanning twenty-four years, Dr. Thorn has maintained her affiliation with professional organizations including the American Dental Association and the American College of Prosthodontists. Locally, she is engaged with the Pearland Chamber of Commerce and Brazoria County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, reflecting her commitment to community involvement and professional collaboration. Beyond clinical practice and teaching roles, Dr. Thorn has demonstrated civic responsibility as a donor to Venezuelan earthquake relief efforts.
Recognition for Dr. Thorn’s accomplishments includes ranking third in graduating classes at both Indiana University Indianapolis and Universidad Nacional Experimental Rómulo Gallegos. Likewise, she was presented with a scholarship from the John F. Johnson Society at Indiana University Indianapolis and an honorable mention certificate from dental school in Venezuela. Dr. Thorn attributes her success to faith in God, which she credits as foundational throughout every stage of her journey, from adapting to a new country and culture to overcoming language barriers and achieving professional goals.
In addition to professional responsibilities, Dr. Thorn is devoted to personal growth and well-being through prioritizing health and fitness activities such as working out at the gym and reading. She is also committed to supporting her son and daughter as they pursue their educational aspirations.
