For most of her career, she has served as an obstetrician and gynecologist with OB-GYN Associates of Marietta in Marietta, Georgia, where she is recognized for her commitment to patient care and her collaborative approach with colleagues. Throughout her tenure, Dr. Chappell has contributed to the growth and reputation of the practice, working alongside a core group of physicians who have maintained a longstanding partnership.
In addition to working at the practice, Dr. Chappell was instrumental at Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center in Marietta, where she has served as the vice chair and chair of the OB/GYN department. During her tenure, she was responsible for clinical operations and strategic planning, as well as the academic, research and administrative functions of the department. Beginning her academic foundation in Longwood, Florida, Dr. Chappell attended Lake Mary High School before enrolling at the University of Florida. She graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Society. During her undergraduate studies, Dr. Chappell was actively involved in campus life, serving as the vice president and intramurals chair for her sorority and leading the Dazzler dance team as the captain during her junior and senior years.
Dr. Chappell continued her education at the school of medicine at the University of Florida, earning a Doctor of Medicine, with honors, in 1995. She excelled academically, receiving distinctions such as the Janet M. Glasgow Memorial Achievement for ranking in the top 10% of her class, Resident of the Year, Outstanding Intern Award and Outstanding Medical Student in Plastic/Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Chappell was also inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Phi Kappa Phi and the Golden Key International Honor Society.
Following medical school, Dr. Chappell completed a four-year residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill, which is recognized for its premier program in this specialty. During her residency, she authored ‘External Cephalic Version Using Epidural Anesthesia Following Failed Attempt Without Epidural’ through the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the school of medicine at UNC.
Dr. Chappell has maintained an active Georgia medical license since 1999 and previously held a North Carolina medical license from 1996 to 1999. She also holds board certification from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Chappell received her certification in 2001 and was recertified in 2007.
Dr. Chappell’s professional journey is marked by active involvement in numerous industry organizations. She is a member of the Georgia Obstetrical and Gynecological Society and the Greater Cobb County Medical Society and has held leadership roles as the president, secretary and treasurer of the Atlanta OB/GYN Society. Additionally, Dr. Chappell is also a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Beyond her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Chappell is civically engaged as a health and safety coordinator for Scouting America (formerly Boy Scouts of America), supporting Eagle Scouts initiatives, including those involving her son, and contributing to summer camp programs. She is also a donor to the Children of the American Revolution and maintains membership with the Daughters of the American Revolution and Mayflower Society. Moreover, Dr. Chappell is active in the Commanderie de Bordeaux, an organization that promotes and educates about Bordeaux wines.
In recognition of her success, Dr. Chappell has earned numerous accolades, including multiple Top Doctors listings from Atlanta Magazine and Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors in Atlanta, Georgia, over several years. She also received America’s Top OB/GYN honors in 2004 and 2005, Top Doctors recognition from Georgia Trend Magazine in 2020, and First Place Best OB/GYN from Cobb Life Magazine’s Best of Cobb awards every year between 2024 and 2026. Aside from her work-related accolades, Dr. Chappell was named among Jezebel Magazine’s Top 10 Bachelorettes. Her civic engagement also earned her a Medal of Appreciation from the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Dr. Chappell’s success is rooted in hard work, determination and strong family support. Inspired by parents who valued education, her path to medicine was shaped by personal experiences during adolescence when she underwent otoplasty after facing teasing about her appearance as a dancer. Initially aspiring to become a plastic surgeon, Dr. Chappell discovered her passion for reconstructive surgery before ultimately finding fulfillment in obstetrics and gynecology during her third year of medical school.
Among Dr. Chappell’s proudest accomplishments is balancing an intensive career with motherhood. Despite working between 60 and 100 hours per week as an obstetrician-gynecologist, she remains deeply involved in her children’s lives. Looking ahead, Dr. Chappell anticipates new chapters beyond clinical practice while continuing to value time spent with loved ones and contributing to both professional circles and civic organizations.
