Dr. Sparkman has held a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas (UT) Medical Branch at Galveston since 1975. She completed a pediatric internship at UT Houston Health Science Center, now UTHealth Houston, in 1976, followed by a pediatric residency at Baylor Affiliated Hospitals in 1978. Dr. Sparkman pursued further specialization through residency training in adult, child and adolescent psychiatry at Baylor Affiliated Hospitals, completing this phase in 1994. In 1995, she undertook psychoanalytic training in New Orleans, Louisiana, initially focusing on adults before expanding into child analysis. Dr. Sparkman’s advanced training culminated in a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at Baylor Affiliated Hospitals in 1996.
In addition to her formal education, Dr. Sparkman holds certification in clinical homeopathy and is recognized as a cardiometabolic health professional with expertise in blood pressure management and cardiovascular issues. Her extensive knowledge in this area was developed through years of training under Dr. Mark Houston, a noted hypertensivist based in Nashville, Tennessee.
