In this capacity, Dr. Afolabi assists in directing the organization’s affairs, setting its vision and ensuring continued growth. He devotes approximately 60-70% of his time to direct patient care, with the remaining time to management and administration.

In addition to his field responsibilities, Dr. Afolabi is an assistant professor at Texas Christian University, where he teaches medical students and shares his expertise in nephrology. He also contributes to medical education as a subspecialty education coordinator for the nephrology program at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, overseeing curriculum development and training for future specialists.

Before his current roles, Dr. Afolabi spent 10 years as a nephrologist in the vascular access department at Tarrant Nephrology Associates, where he specialized in procedures critical to patient well-being. He also served as a nephrology fellow trainer in kidney transplant care in Houston, Texas, for two years, sharing his knowledge with emerging professionals in the field.

Dr. Afolabi’s academic foundation was laid at Obafemi Awolowo University in his native Nigeria, where he earned a Doctor of Medicine in 1994. His medical journey began with an internship in Lagos, Nigeria, followed by an internal medicine residency and a nephrology fellowship at Henry Ford Health in Michigan. Additionally, Dr. Afolabi completed an interventional nephrology traineeship at St. David’s Medical Center in Austin, Texas.

Dr. Afolabi is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Nephrology, the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology, and the Renal Physicians Association. Beyond his clinical and academic pursuits, he is an active speaker and mentor with Nephrology Business Leadership University, contributing to the development of future leaders in the specialty.

Dr. Afolabi’s commitment to excellence in patient care has been recognized through numerous accolades. He has consistently been named one of the Top Doctors in Fort Worth for more than a decade, was voted a Top Doctor in Fort Worth by Fort Worth Magazine, and, in 2018, received the Physician of the Year Award at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital. These honors reflect Dr. Afolabi’s unwavering dedication to providing exceptional care and advancing the field of nephrology.
