Dr. Miranda has established a distinguished career in medicine spanning more than five decades, marked by innovation, resilience and a commitment to patient-centered care. Since 2001, he has served as the founding physician and owner of Roberto Miranda, MD, Regenerative Medicine Austin in Austin, Texas, where he has focused on advancing regenerative therapies and hormone replacement treatments. In this capacity, Dr. Miranda has become most recognized for his work with women approaching menopause and men experiencing erectile dysfunction, as well as for providing platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy for conditions such as back, shoulder and knee pain. His practice also addresses common ailments, including sore throats and allergies, but his primary achievement lies in helping patients achieve improved quality of life through targeted hormonal and regenerative interventions.
Before launching his family practice, Dr. Miranda owned and operated Roberto Miranda, MD, PA. His approach to medicine evolved significantly after retiring from surgical practice in 1997. He spent the next four years working as an emergency room physician, gaining extensive experience in acute care settings across multiple hospitals in Austin. This period reinforced Dr. Miranda’s dedication to treating the root causes of illness rather than merely managing symptoms, a philosophy that continues to guide his work today.
Dr. Miranda’s earlier career was defined by his tenure as a general surgeon, a path he pursued with passion after completing his surgical training at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Despite facing challenges as a foreign-born physician, including limited referrals from local general practitioners, he built a reputation for exceptional bedside manner and technical skill. To sustain his practice, Dr. Miranda took calls at the emergency rooms of five area hospitals, often providing pro bono care to uninsured patients. Ultimately, the demands of this lifestyle led him to transition from surgery to general practice and regenerative medicine.
Dr. Miranda’s educational background was both international and comprehensive. He began his medical studies in Frankfurt, Germany, before transferring to Brazil due to concerns about the recognition of his diploma. He earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of São Paulo in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1969. Following graduation, he relocated to the United States in 1972 to pursue surgical residency training at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Dr. Miranda holds board certification in general surgery from the American Board of Surgery, Inc.
Throughout his professional journey, Dr. Miranda has maintained an active membership as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. This affiliation reflects his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence. Beyond his clinical roles, Dr. Miranda has demonstrated a strong commitment to civic engagement through volunteer work at clinics and extensive pro bono service for underserved populations in Austin.
Dr. Miranda’s early academic promise was evident from childhood when he excelled in school and was considered for seminary studies by his bishop. However, a pivotal personal experience redirected his ambitions toward medicine, a field where he would ultimately make significant contributions over the next five decades. Fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian and German, Dr. Miranda brings a multicultural perspective to patient care and community involvement.
Looking ahead, Dr. Miranda aspires to retire alongside his wife while continuing to support his children. He takes pride in having lived a life dedicated to healing others and inspiring patients to adopt healthier lifestyles through education and preventive care.
