Doug Strobel, MD, board-certified neurologist and founder at Healthy Brain Doc, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in neurology.

Dr. Strobel has established a distinguished career defined by innovation, patient advocacy and a commitment to advancing neurological care. In 2024, he founded Healthy Brain Doc, a conscious neurology practice dedicated to individuals with unresolved or unidentified conditions. At Healthy Brain Doc, Dr. Strobel prioritizes a holistic approach, focusing on medication reevaluation and discontinuation of nonessential or potentially harmful prescriptions. He emphasizes uncovering the root causes of neurological issues through established methods, such as nutrition and exercise, reflecting the ethos behind the practice’s name. His daily responsibilities include managing patient inquiries, processing medication refills, conducting consultations, accommodating patients across multiple time zones and ensuring comprehensive follow-up care.

Since 2003, Dr. Strobel has also served as a medical doctor at Community Hospital in Indianapolis, where he has provided expert neurological care and contributed to the hospital’s reputation for clinical excellence. His expertise in neurology, genetics and autoimmune care has been widely recognized throughout his career.

Prior to founding Healthy Brain Doc, Dr. Strobel served as a neurologist at JWM Neurology from 2003 to 2024. During his tenure, he contributed significantly to medical education by teaching residents on family practice rotations. Dr. Strobel found this role particularly rewarding, as it not only allowed him to mentor future physicians but also challenged him to continually expand his own knowledge base. Notably, one of his former students now serves as his personal physician, a testament to the enduring impact of his mentorship.

In addition to his medical pursuits, Dr. Strobel serves as the chief science officer for Dr. Doug’s Balms, a skin care business utilizing formulations he has developed. This venture has flourished under the leadership of his spouse, Natalie.

Before his notable medical career, Dr. Strobel’s professional journey began with 10 years in the U.S. Navy. This experience instilled in him a profound sense of discipline and resilience that continues to inform his approach to medicine.

Dr. Strobel’s academic background is both extensive and foundational to his success. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry and biology from Indiana University Bloomington in 1985, followed by a Master of Science in human and medical genetics from Texas A&M University in 1995. Subsequently, Dr. Strobel earned a Doctor of Medicine from The University of Texas at San Antonio’s Health Science Center in 1999 and completed a neurology residency on campus in 2003. He has been board-certified through the American Academy of Neurology since 1999.

Dr. Strobel’s commitment to advancing the field is further demonstrated by his ongoing involvement in research and patient-centered initiatives. Beyond his clinical and research efforts, he is actively engaged in civic and charitable endeavors. He supports Sister Parish Inc. and sponsors individuals for race and adventure events through Catholic Charities, reflecting a broad commitment to community service.

Looking back on his accomplishments, Dr. Strobel considers his most notable achievement to be an instance when he diagnosed a patient with Susac syndrome, a rare neurological disorder with only about 200 cases worldwide. Recognizing the disease from his board studies after a radiologist noted periarterial and perivenular inflammation, he persisted despite initial skepticism from colleagues. Dr. Strobel consulted directly with Dr. John Susac, the namesake of Susac syndrome, who advised him to halt an interferon treatment that could have been fatal for the patient. This decisive action ultimately saved the patient’s life and reinforced Dr. Strobel’s dedication to thoroughness and humility in clinical practice. In light of his contributions, he has received several honors, including a Teaching Award for excellence in medical education and a Church Award from St. Joseph for service within his faith community.

Dr. Strobel is part of a family deeply rooted in health care, with generations of physicians, nurses, dental hygienists and physical therapists. He attributes much of his professional drive and work ethic to his ancestors. Looking ahead, Dr. Strobel remains dedicated to advancing the cure for multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune diseases through research and clinical innovation.
