Mohsen Nouri, MD, director of neurovascular surgery at the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Doctors for dedication, achievements, and leadership in neurovascular surgery.
For more than 15 years, Dr. Nouri has established himself as a leading physician and expert in the field of neurovascular surgery. Following his schooling, he pursued several fellowships, beginning in 2013 with one focused on neurovascular surgery at Fujita Health University in Japan. Immigrating to the United States in 2017, Dr. Nouri further gained experience in skull base surgery at Cornell University. From 2017 to 2019, he completed a fellowship in endovascular surgical neuroradiology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Nouri dedicated one year to a cerebrovascular surgery fellowship at North Shore University Hospital. He expanded on cerebrovascular surgery for a fellowship at Hofstra University’s Donald & Barbara Zucker School of Medicine from 2019 to 2020.
Dr. Nouri joined the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in 2020 as a cerebrovascular surgeon and neurointerventionalist. In addition to those duties, he has served as the institution’s director of neurovascular surgery since 2021. Dr. Nouri’s daily responsibilities include treating patients in the emergency department and visiting them in outpatient appointments. He oversees the hospital’s neurovascular surgery services, ensuring that operations run as efficiently as possible.
Before venturing onto his vocational path, Dr. Nouri set the foundation for his future through his academic career. He earned an MD in general medicine through the Tehran University of Medical Sciences in his home country of Iran in 2008. Following that, Dr. Nouri completed a residency in neurosurgery at the same institution from 2008 to 2013. With training across Iran, Japan and the United States, he attributes his success to his exceptional mentors in each country, as well as his persistence and ability to set goals.
As a commitment to his field, Dr. Nouri has been active with several industry-related organizations. He maintains active membership in the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Nouri devoted three years to his role on the board of directors of the Asian Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He also spent time as an editorial board member for the Iranian Journal of Neurosurgery and the Asian Journal of Neurosurgery.
Among his many achievements, Dr. Nouri is most proud of what he has accomplished since becoming part of the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Prior to 2020, there was no comprehensive stroke treatment center for that institution and the Queens, New York, area in general. Dr. Nouri feels fulfilled at having built up a team that can treat patients locally rather than transferring them to other hospitals. His efforts were recognized when he was presented with the Healthcare Heroes Award by Schneps Media in 2025.
Beyond his career, Dr. Nouri is a loving husband and father to one daughter. When he’s not working, he enjoys playing guitar, spending time with his family and studying political science. Looking to what’s next, Dr. Nouri is eager to continue elevating the standard of health care in his area. That effort includes being available for surgeries at other hospitals and potentially opening a private practice. Dr. Nouri also hopes to find time to perform research, with the goal of improving procedures and outcomes for stroke patients.
