In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Oyoung-Oliver was appointed as the assistant clinical professor at the school of medicine at the University of Colorado in 2024. She plays a vital role in medical education by providing clinical instruction to students, allowing them to observe patient interactions and gain hands-on experience under her guidance. Dr. Oyoung-Oliver’s commitment to teaching began before her medical career, with extensive experience as an educator at the University of Colorado and several community colleges in the region, including Front Range Community College and Denver College. When efforts commenced to develop a medical school in northern Colorado, Dr. Oyoung-Oliver was invited to train medical students in clinical neurology, solidifying her dedication to mentoring future health care professionals.

Dr. Oyoung-Oliver’s educational background is distinguished by rigorous training and academic achievement. Her undergraduate studies culminated with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, molecular, cellular and developmental biology with a minor in chemistry from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She then garnered a master’s degree in biomedical sciences from Colorado State University., followed by a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the DeBusk college of osteopathic medicine at Lincoln Memorial University in 2014. From there, Dr. Oyoung-Oliver completed a residency in neurology at Michigan State University in 2018 and a fellowship in epilepsy at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System in 2019.

Throughout her educational journey, Dr. Oyoung-Oliver has achieved significant milestones. She was selected as the chief resident during her final year of residency at Michigan State University in 2018, an honor bestowed by the program director and head of the neurology department. Dr. Oyoung-Oliver also graduated on the dean’s and honors list and served as the president of the Student Osteopathic Medical Association during her academic tenure. 

Dr. Oyoung-Oliver maintains active membership in several professional organizations, including the American Epilepsy Society, the American Academy of Neurology, the American Medical Association and the Colorado Medical Society. Her commitment to service extends beyond her professional roles through volunteer work at St. Joseph’s Hospital, North Suburban Hospital and Project C.U.R.E., reflecting her dedication to community health initiatives. 

Looking ahead, Dr. Oyoung-Oliver aims to expand the epilepsy departments within the northern region of the University of Colorado to enhance care for patients with seizure disorders. She seeks to collaborate with the administration to streamline access to providers and neurologists while broadening resources for advanced surgical interventions, such as responsive nerve stimulation and deep brain stimulation for refractory seizures. As the only epileptologist managing these advanced devices in the region, Dr. Oyoung-Oliver continues to educate both patients and the broader community about innovative treatment options while working toward program growth through partnerships with institutions such as the University of Colorado and Oregon.
