Across 10 years in the field of health care, Dr. Lewis has defined herself as a strong advocate for her patients, especially in the areas of pediatrics and pediatric critical care. After completing dual residencies, she joined Northwell Health in 2019. Since 2022, Dr. Lewis has served as an attending physician at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, a part of the Northwell Health system. She specializes in pediatric critical care.
With a unique combination of expertise in critical care and pediatrics, Dr. Lewis’ daily activities center on caring for patients in the pediatric intensive care unit (ICU). She reviews charts, makes care plans, and updates and educates both parents of the patients and junior doctors. In addition to managing admissions, transfers and discharges, Dr. Lewis also performs procedures as needed. Showcasing her leadership skills, she oversees doctors going through their residencies in the ICU and also handles overnight calls four to five times a month.
Dr. Lewis’ performance in the field was born of her academic journey. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and classical history from Vassar College. Subsequently, Dr. Lewis earned an MD from the University of Connecticut’s School of Medicine. She went on to complete dual residencies in internal medicine and pediatrics at Baystate Medical Center through the University of Massachusetts. Dr. Lewis believes that her dual residencies have provided her with a rare and valuable skill set that sets her apart from her peers and makes her an ideal choice for working in the pediatric ICU. She has been board-certified in internal medicine, pediatrics and pediatric critical care medicine.
To remain aware of developments affecting her field, Dr. Lewis has maintained her personal affiliation with a number of pertinent organizations. She is associated with the Massachusetts Medical Society, the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. While in school, Dr. Lewis was a member of Sigma Xi, Th Scientific Research Honor Society. She has been a fellow with the New York Society of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine since 2025.
Reflecting her accomplishments as a physician, Dr. Lewis has been the subject of a number of accolades. Among others, she won the Dean’s Award for a Research Project in 2013, the Best Resident in the Clinic Award in 2019, the Star Researcher Award from the Society of Critical Care Medicine in 2021 and the DAISY Award in 2022. Also in 2022, Dr. Lewis placed second in a research symposium’s poster contest.
Dr. Lewis was first driven to consider a career in health care after she was in a minor car crash and ended up in the emergency room. From that point, she quickly realized her interest in and passion for helping others, especially kids. Though Dr. Lewis has published several research papers, she considers the crowning achievement of her career to be providing high-quality care to her patients. She finds deep fulfillment in helping children and seeing the positive impact that her work has on families.
Outside of her primary vocation, Dr. Lewis finds enjoyment in visiting museums, attending live music and shows, eating at upscale restaurants and reading, especially ancient and medieval history. Moving forward, she plans to become more involved in residency training, with intentions to make teaching doctors a major part of her career. Dr. Lewis is also currently engaged in a research project that she is eager to continue. Her primary goal for the future is to continue being the best pediatric care doctor she can be and providing the best care possible to patients.
