Mr. Wittig’s exceptional leadership extended to his position as chairman of orthopedic surgery at Morristown Medical Center during the same period, where he transformed a community-based program into a nationally acclaimed initiative within four years.

Prior to his tenure at Atlantic Health, Dr. Wittig excelled as the vice chairman of orthopedic surgery and chief of orthopedic oncology and sarcoma surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center, now known as Hackensack Meridian Health, from 2004 to 2018. His expertise in orthopedic oncology was further honed during his time as the chief of orthopedic oncology and sarcoma surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center from 2007 to 2013. Earlier in his career, Dr. Wittig practiced as an orthopedic oncologist at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases from 2001 to 2007.

Dr. Wittig’s educational background laid a strong foundation for his professional achievements. He initially earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Seton Hall University in 1990, followed by a Doctor of Medicine from NYU Grossman School of Medicine in 1994. His postgraduate training included an internship in general surgery at St Luke’s-Roosevelt Medical Center and a residency in orthopedic surgery at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, culminating in a fellowship in orthopedic oncology and sarcoma surgery at Washington Hospital Center, part of the Washington Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health.

Board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Wittig holds medical licensure in New York, New Jersey, Florida, and Pennsylvania. His commitment to patient-centric care is reflected in his belief that growth stems from prioritizing patients’ needs and embracing precision medicine. This philosophy has been shaped by his upbringing in a hardworking family that valued service and education.

In addition to his clinical roles, Dr. Wittig is actively involved with several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society and the Clinical Orthopaedic Society. His contributions to the field have been celebrated with numerous accolades, such as recognition among the Best Doctors – Orthopedic Surgeon by New York Magazine and Top Doctors in America for Cancer by Castle Connolly.

Beyond his primary endeavors, Dr. Wittig is dedicated to civic engagement as the founder of the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of New Jersey, set to launch in July 2025. He is also passionate about mentoring future generations of doctors, having trained over 300 orthopedic residents throughout his career.

In his personal life, Dr. Wittig enjoys activities that nurture both body and mind, such as fitness, meditation and studying hypnotherapy. He is committed to enhancing patient care by integrating holistic approaches that address physical health while nurturing the mind and soul. Through these efforts, Dr. Wittig aims to continue providing exceptional care to patients affected by bone, cell and tissue cancers.
