Before her present positions, Dr. Sumaili was a medical doctor at Albany Area Primary Health Care, a nonprofit community health center based in Albany, Georgia, from 2015 to 2025. Between 2017 and 2023, she served as the assistant medical director at Integrity Hospice, where her leadership skills in providing quality end-of-life care began to take shape.
Dr. Sumaili’s journey into the medical field began with a role as a hyperbaric chamber technician in Sint Eustatius, Netherlands Antilles, from 2007 to 2008. She also gained experience as a patient care technician at DeKalb Regional Medical Center between 2009 and 2012.
In preparation for her future in medicine, Dr. Sumaili earned a Bachelor of Science in biology, cum laude, from Kennesaw State University in 2006, during which she received numerous academic honors. She also received a Bachelor of Applied Science in basic science from the University of Sint Eustatius School of Medicine in 2008. Subsequently, Dr. Sumaili earned a Doctor of Medicine from Xavier University in Aruba in 2010, followed by a residency in family medicine at Phoebe Putney Health System from 2012 to 2015. During her residency, she was recognized with several awards, including Resident of the Year and Chief Resident Academic Year honors. Additionally, Dr. Sumaili earned board certification in family medicine and various technical certifications that have further enhanced her impact in the field.
Dr. Sumaili is an active member of several professional organizations, such as the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy of Family Physicians. These memberships allow her to continue serving as a leader and advocate within the medical community.
Beyond her professional affiliations, Dr. Sumaili is deeply committed to community service and education. She founded NEEMA, a nonprofit organization supporting widows and orphans in West Africa, which she runs alongside her daughter, Grace. The organization receives donations of clothing, goods and sanitary items for women, as well as monetary contributions from its supporters. Dr. Sumaili’s passion for educating women and incorporating a holistic approach to medicine underscores her dedication to improving overall well-being.
Throughout her career, Dr. Sumaili has been recognized for her contributions to the field of medicine and community service, including earning the Lieutenant-Governor’s Award from the Island of Sint Eustatius in 2008.
