Dr. Mac has established a distinguished career in the medical field, currently serving as the senior director of medical affairs and spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) Evrysdi (risdiplam) medical lead at Genentech, a biotechnology research company headquartered in South San Francisco. In this role, which she has held since 2024, she is responsible for managing significant research projects, developing innovative solutions and empowering teams. She also leads all research funding for neuromuscular diseases and collaborates with the technology team to create artificial intelligence and machine learning tools that enhance the efficiency of medical directors. Additionally, Dr. Mac serves as the company’s representative to advocacy groups.

Before her current position, Dr. Mac became the senior medical director for health care systems collaborations and population health lead at Genentech/Roche in 2023, where she continues to make an impact. Her tenure with the leading organization began in 2022 when she served as the senior medical director for the neuro pipeline.

Earlier, Dr. Mac was deeply involved in translational medicine at Stanford University. She also served as the director of translational medicine at the Herzenberg Immunology Laboratory from 2021 to 2022 and held a similar role at the Stanford Genome Technology Center between 2018 and 2022. Dr. Mac’s commitment to patient relations was particularly evident during her time at Stanford.

Dr. Mac’s passion for teaching began in 2014 as a clinical instructor in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation in the school of medicine at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, where she remained until 2017. This role enabled her to influence many future doctors by emphasizing the importance of understanding patients’ lives beyond the confines of textbooks. Dr. Mac’s dedication to education was further highlighted by her role as a medical advisor in the school of medicine at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, from 2020 to 2021.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Mac served as a musculoskeletal ultrasound fellow at the Detroit Medical Center between 2014 and 2015. She also held several other positions, including physician and pain fellow at Tri-County Pain Consultants in 2014 and resident physician in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan from 2011 to 2014. Among other noteworthy roles, Dr. Mac gained valuable experience as a senior analytics consultant for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan between 2008 and 2009 and as the director of business development for Mango Languages, starting in 2007.

Dr. Mac’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in biology from Wayne State University in 1999, followed by the completion of a Doctor of Medicine on campus in 2007. Her educational achievements were supported by a Presidential Full Scholarship from Wayne State University.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Dr. Mac’s involvement extends to having served on various councils within the Association of Academic Physiatrists. She is also an accomplished author and public speaker. She has made significant contributions to the field through publications such as ‘Mobile Health Apps Are Used for Many Rehabilitation Purposes’ and ‘Systematic Review of Mobile Health Applications in Rehabilitation,’ both published in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2019.

Dr. Mac attributes her success to her supportive parents and mentors, drawing inspiration from her uncle, a neurosurgeon who provided free care in India. Looking ahead, she aims to leverage technology to improve lives while continuing to mentor others. She also plans to author a book on navigating the healthcare system for both patients and physicians.
