Before her tenure at Scripps Clinic Medical Group, Dr. Ellis enjoyed an illustrious military career. She was commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1977 and rose to become a commander by 1987. Her service included roles that included attending staff and consultant at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Camp Pendleton, California, and Okinawa, Japan. Dr. Ellis also served as the director of surgical services at Camp Pendleton and was a general medical officer at Miramar Naval Air Station in San Diego.
Dr. Ellis’s academic journey laid a strong foundation for her professional achievements. She earned a Bachelor of Arts with special honors from the University of Texas in 1973 and a Doctor of Osteopathy from the University of North Texas Health Science Center in 1978. Her postgraduate training included an internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, culminating in her role as the chief resident at the Navy Regional Medical Center in 1983. Dr. Ellis is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, making her highly qualified in her niche area of medicine.
Actively involved with numerous professional organizations, Dr. Ellis is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Medical Association, the California Medical Association, the San Diego County Medical Society and Mensa International. Her contributions extend beyond her clinical practice to include civic engagement, and she has volunteered as an instructor for the United States Navy.
Throughout her medical tenure, Dr. Ellis’s commitment to advancing medical practices has been evident through her implementation of several innovative programs, such as an emergency room coverage program for obstetrician-gynecologists and a midwifery program at Scripps Clinic Medical Group. She has also been a panel speaker in Washington, D.C., and has chaired committees on utilization review and quality assurance at Scripps Clinic Medical Group.
In light of her extensive expertise in the medical field, Dr. Ellis’s accolades included earning the Ruth Black Achievement Award, receiving the Senior Consultant Designation from Scripps Clinic Medical Group and being named one of the Top Doctors by Consumer Research Council. She attributes her success to her perseverance and the support of her parents.
Eager for continued success, Dr. Ellis intends to continue her career as an obstetrician-gynecologist, caring for her patients with empathy and understanding.
