With more than 35 years of experience to his credit, Dr. Fleming has established himself throughout a distinguished career in the field of urology, marked by his dedication to patient care and innovative medical practices. Since 2013, he has excelled with Lakeshore Urology, where he holds the title of urologist. In this position, Dr. Fleming has continued to advance his expertise and contribute significantly to his practice, particularly in the use of green light lasers. Lakeshore Urology was recognized as the first center of excellence for green light lasers by Boston Scientific in 2020, which remains a testament to his extraordinary commitment to cutting-edge medical technology.
Prior to his tenure at Lakeshore Urology, Dr. Fleming found success as a urologist at West Shore Urology from 2006 to 2013. During this period, he honed his skills and expanded his professional network, further solidifying his reputation as a leading expert in urology. In 2006, he briefly served as the head of urology at the West Bloomfield Satellite, where he played a pivotal role in managing and supervising urological services.
Dr. Fleming’s career also includes significant contributions to veteran care through his locum tenens work at Togus Veterans Affairs Medical Center from 1999 to 2005. The aforementioned facility is renowned as the oldest Veterans Affairs institution in the United States. Dr. Fleming’s dedication to aiding veterans is evident in his regular visits to the Togus Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where he provides specialized care and support to those who have served their country.
Between 1989 and 2006, Dr. Fleming began his career as a urologist, playing an integral part of the Henry Ford Health System. It was during this time that he conducted a laser course at Henry Ford in 1995, providing instruction to both staff and external urologists. Additionally, he was recruited as part of the pioneering team led by Dr. Manny Menon in developing robotic prostatectomy techniques. As the fifth member of this team, Dr. Fleming gained invaluable experience and skills under the mentorship of one of the early masters in his field.
Before embarking upon his professional path, Dr. Fleming pursued a formal education at Kalamazoo College, where an orientation program modeled after Outward Bound profoundly influenced him. Upon obtaining his bachelor’s degree, he subsequently concluded his studies at Wayne State University, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine in 1989. He ultimately completed his residency at Wayne State University, cementing a strong foundation for his successful career. These academic experiences instilled in him a sense of attentiveness and adherence to instructions that have been instrumental throughout his career.
In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Fleming is actively involved in civic organizations such as Shriners International, reflecting his commitment to community service and philanthropy. His contributions to medicine have been recognized with accolades such as recognition among America’s Top Physicians by the Consumer Research Council of America in 2006.
Outside of his primary responsibilities, Dr. Fleming cherishes his time with his family, including his loving children, Holly Webb, Caitlin Fleming, and Joseph Hughes. He also enjoys downhill skiing and values teaching critical thinking skills to his grandchildren, fostering their independence and empowerment. However, Dr. Fleming is most proud of a memorable experience with his granddaughter in which he taught her how to drive during snowy weather, creating cherished memories while imparting valuable life skills.
